Steelers 1st Round Pick Kenny Pickett Definitely Heard the Noise During the Pre-Draft Process

The Pittsburgh Steelers used their first round pick at number 20 overall to select QB Kenny Pickett a few months ago. The rookie has already gone through rookie minicamp, Organized Team Activities (OTAs), and the 2022 minicamp with the Steelers. He's right in the mix to be the next starting quarterback to don the black and gold with Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph

Pickett was interviewed on Tuesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show to talk about his draft experience, adjusting from college to the NFL, his familiarity with the Steelers, and more!

McAfee asked Pickett how much outside noise did he hear during the pre-draft process and Pickett responded:

"You'd be lying to yourself, when guys say, 'Oh, I don't hear it,' like this day and age, like somehow you could put the TV on and you're just going to see it pop across your screen by accident. So, of course, you hear things, but it was a unique process, man, I'm happy I only had to do it once, I can tell you that. I found my new home and I'm excited now to start my rookie year."

McAfee went on to ask Pickett, in a way that it seemed like he knew a little more than the audience watching, "What was it like going to dinner with [Mike] Tomlin and [Kevin] Colbert? Did you do that, 'cause they had dinner with everybody and it looks like they're having a great time everywhere they go, and Tomlin loved the entire process."

Pickett responded:

"Man, I tell you what, I missed the dinner part of it, they must have skipped that out on me. They just had me walk next door, they just had me pop in, pop over next door, I'll have to mess with Coach on that one," Pickett says while smiling and laughing.

"It's great finally being on that side of the building, obviously, and getting to know them a lot better. I was really only able to watch them practice and kind of just brushing shoulders when I was walking out to the practice field, and that was kind of it. So, now that I got a chance to be in the building and get to work with those guys a little bit, obviously, it's a lot different. You can see why they have such a great franchise."

Something tells me that McAfee knew Pickett didn't have a dinner date with Tomlin during the pre-draft process and he just wanted to poke some fun with the Steelers first rounder. Pickett used the opportunity to poke fun at Tomlin. I don't think the dinner matters, especially now, the rookie has a fighting chance to earn the starting spot for one of the greatest franchises in NFL history!
