Steelers Sign OLB Ryan Anderson To 53-Man Roster, Elevate DB’s Josh Jackson, Elijah Riley In Latest Roster Moves

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their roster moves for Sunday's Week 5 tilt against the Buffalo Bills. While TJ Watt remains out, they have made a move at edge rusher. Former 2017 second-rounder, Ryan Anderson, who saw the field in Week 4 and was signed to the team's practice squad a few weeks ago, has been signed to the 53-man roster. He saw five total snaps on defense in Week 4 against the New York Jets and could possibly get more this weekend.

David Anenih has been released in a corresponding move.

Beyond that, the defensive back room for Sunday's game has become a little more clear. Josh Jackson and Elijah Riley have been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster. These two are direct beneficiaries of the injuries to cornerback, Ahkello Witherspoon and safety, Terrell Edmunds.

The two starters have already been ruled out for this week, as Edmunds suffered a concussion in the Week 4 loss to the Jets. Witherspoon is dealing with a hamstring injury, so he's not a guarantee to return in Week 6 either. Riley and Jackson likely won't get much playing time on Sunday, and they may even be one or two of the team's gameday inactives.

Tre Norwood and Miles Killebrew will be expected to step up in a big way in the absence of Edmunds. A guy like Damontae Kazee would be able to step in immediately, but he remains suspended and hurt. He's eligible to return from suspension in Week 6, but it's unclear if he's fully recovered from his wrist injury. He originally would have been eligible to return off the IR this weekend, but the suspension pushed things back a week.

How do you guys think the secondary will do with Edmunds and Witherspoon out? Who do you look for to step up the most in their absences? Do you expect to see Anderson get an extended look? Share your thoughts in the comment section below, as well as on our social media sites!
