The Pittsburgh Steelers lost safety Damontae Kazee to injury in the final preseason game, and he's going to be out for at least the next 4 games. They also lost Karl Joseph earlier in training camp to a season ending injury. A position that was once thought to be very deep is now suddenly very thin. With that in mind reports have surfaced Monday morning that the Steelers are signing veteran safety Andrew Adams to the practice squad.

Adams came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent signing with the New York Giants in 2016. He spent his first two seasons in New York before stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2018, 2019-2020, 2021), Detroit Lions (2019) and Philadelphia Eagles (2021).

Adams recently signed back with the Giants on July 27, and at the time Giants general manager Joe Schoen seemed thrilled to have the veteran back in New York.

“He’s smart, tough, he’s played ball in the league, and the people that were here before us who interacted with him spoke very highly of him,’’ Schoen said to the NY Post.

Ultimately reports indicate that in a close battle at the safety position that Giants decided to go younger and released the veteran Adams.

In 87 career games (35 starts), Adams has recorded 190 tackles, four QB hits, two forced fumbles, 23 passes defensed and seven interceptions.

During the Buccaneers Super Bowl run Adams played in all 16 games of the regular season. The last time he was a starter was during the 2019 when he started 11 games for Tampa.
