It was a hot topic during the playoffs after the Kansas City Chiefs won the coin toss in overtime, and drove down the field to win their playoff game against the Buffalo Bills without Josh Allen and his offense getting a chance. The high profile stakes have now changed the rule book. Now both teams will get a chance with the football according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. We can essentially call it the 'Josh Allen Rule'.

The rule change will only happen for the playoffs according to reports, but it could lead to eventually changing the regular season rules. During the regular season, teams only have a 10-minute overtime period, and it goes very quickly. Often times, after a team's first possession, there isn't much time left for the other team's offense. This has led to an increase in ties across the NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers have tied twice in the past three seasons. The last time they had a tie prior to 2018 was 2002.
Now NFL playoff games won't ride on the coin toss. Something that the league has been trying to find ways around for several seasons now. They've struggled to make the right adjustments, but this could finally point them in the right direction.
