The Pittsburgh Steelers are experiencing Sundays differently than they have for the last 18 years in 2022. Former starting quarterback and future Hall of Famer, Ben Roethlisberger hung up his cleats back in January. The Super Bowl winning quarterback has been up to a lot during the short time he has been retired.

Roethlisberger started a podcast called Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, was part of a team celebrity golf tournament win and now is going to be hopping on the links again for the Constellation Furyk and Friends PGA Tour Champions event from October 7th-9th. It will be a Steelers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars matchup and Tony Boselli, who was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame in August, will be one of the golfers going up against the Steelers' former signal-caller.
Both Roethlisberger and Boselli's partners in the match have not been announced and will be known at a later date, but according to The Florida Times-Union, the two joining will also be former members of the two organizations. After the final group of PGA Tour Champions get off the 10th green on the first day of the event, the two duos will go head-to-head in a nine-hole scramble to determine the victor.
For those that stick to football and don't watch much golf, a scramble is essentially a "best ball" format. Both golfers hit a shot and after each one, they come together to decide who had the better shot. Whoever hit the worse shot for the team, picks up his ball and drops it next to his teammate's. This continues for each golf shot that happens throughout the nine-hole event.
Back in 2019, PGA.com wrote an article on NFL quarterbacks and which playmakers on the field also are dangerous on the course. Roethlisberger came in at third, only behind Tom Brady and Matt Ryan. Here is what it said about the former Steelers QB:
"Big Ben is tough to tackle on the football field, and the guy can flat out hit a golf ball. He’s reportedly carried a handicap as low as 0.4 but more recent reports have that up near a 7 now. Roethlisberger has played in many celebrity pro-ams. Most notably, he shot an 81 in a pre-US Open competition in 2009 at Bethpage Black. We probably would card an 81 just walking to the first tee box the way that course was set up that year."

There will be $100,000 on the table to split between two charities and Team Roethlisberger will be playing for Beaches Habitat For Humanity, located in Atlantic Beach, Florida. It's always great to see current and former athletes give back to the community and this is an awesome event to support a good cause. Team Boselli is playing for Blessings In A Backpack.
Although they are only 10 years apart in age, Boselli retired in 2001, before Roethlisberger joined the league in 2004 and went on to have a decorated 18-year career. If there is one thing Steelers fans know about their former quarterback, it's that he is extremely competitive. For charity or not, he is going to go out there and try to beat Boselli and whoever his teammate is.
A year ago, Steelers legend and wide receiver, Lynn Swann participated in the event. Hall of Fame running back, Jerome Bettis joins Swann as another past participant at Furyk's annual outing.
