This has been a big speculation among fans for months. No one was sure what the team was going to do in regards to the strong safety position. That question is now answered at least for the following season, with Edmunds signing a deal reportedly worth $2.5M.

Will the Steelers still draft a safety in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft?
Pittsburgh's general manager, Kevin Colbert said earlier this off-season that the safety position was really the only position at that point that didn't have a penciled-in starter. With Edmunds returning, does this mean Pittsburgh won't draft a safety in less than a week at the NFL Draft? We've seen names like Kyle Hamilton and Jaquan Brisker floating around Steeler Nation, but whether they're even on the board at either picks No. 20 or 52, is an entirely different question.
For now, Edmunds, 25, brings a veteran presence back to the modern day Steel Curtain, and his improvement since he was drafted in the first round by Pittsburgh in 2018 has increased tremendously. This likely means the team is out on Pro Bowl safety, Tyrann Mathieu, but it'll be interesting to see how the Steelers fill the rest of their roster after the draft is over.
