Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro defensive tackle and team captain, Cam Heyward joined The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny and spoke about his relationship with former teammate Ryan Clark, Los Angeles Rams star DT, Aaron Donald, the evolution of the NFL, and much more.
One thing specifically that stood out however during the interview was Heyward's high praise for Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin. We've heard time and time again about how numerous players have been vocal about their respect and desire to play for Tomlin. Heyward today was no different:
"Mike T's my guy. I'd run through a wall for him. I respect him so much that there's nothing I wouldn't do for that guy. I want to make sure I get him a Super Bowl to say, I know he's got Super Bowls, but I want to be able to say, 'I got my coach a Super Bowl.' 'I was able to deliver and make sure that I held up my end of the bargain.'"

Kimes would later ask Heyward, "Obviously, he's an incredibly successful coach, credible record. Sometimes people call him a 'player's coach,' which is a label that's been criticized, I think, because of the racial undertones. Do you feel like that denigrates his accomplishments and what he does for your team?" Heyward responded:
"Yeah, most of the time, they do call black head coaches 'players coaches.' Mike T wants the best from you, and to think that it's denigrated to his skin color and it's looked at as, 'oh, he just hangs out with his players,' that's bulls**t to me. That guy, he's a student of the game. He's constantly in the film room looking at plays and making sure we need to be where we're supposed to be. There are plenty of times in summers before where he's like, 'Hey, make sure you look at this, because I want to do this during camp.' And I'm like, 'S**t, we haven't even got to mini-camp.' And I'm like, 'Alright, I'll get ready and I'll make sure I know what I've got to do.' But we have one of the best coaches in the NFL. And I'm not just talking now, but all-time. There's not a lot you can say about a man who's never had a losing season. That shows that he's able to make sure his players are fighting for them. And there is a level of accountability in our locker room. We know we have to perform, and he lays it out every day."
En route to another Super Bowl, that's exactly how you want to hear your players speak about the head coach. There's nothing you want more than for your players to give their coach everything they have on Sundays, and leave it all on the field. When you have a coach you want to play and fight for, that can be the difference between winning and losing. That is what's going to be key for the Steelers in 2022.
