Steelers WR Cody White, LB Delontae Scott The Latest Guys To Impress In Latrobe 2022

Pittsburgh Steelers training camp has already seen a few breakout players, specifically on the defensive side of the ball. As things continued in Latrobe on Thursday, a few guys impressed at practice according to our very own, Brandon James Wallace. Most notably, linebacker Delontae Scott and wide receiver Cody White were making plays all over the field.

With Diontae Johnson back in the fold after he reached a contract extension in the morning, the Steelers offense picked things up a bit. While Chase Claypool remained sidelined with an injury, today it was wide receiver Cody White that stepped up and impressed. In the past few days, it had been Anthony Miller impressing in the absence of Johnson. White got some first-team reps Thursday, alongside rookie George Pickens and Johnson.

At the moment, there seem to be four locks to make the 53-man roster at WR: Johnson, Claypool, Pickens, and Calvin Austin III. That likely only leaves two spots left for the group of White, Miller, Gunner OlszewskiTyler VaughnsMiles Boykin, and others.

To White's advantage, of that group, he's the longest-tenured Steeler. That gives him some familiarity within the offense, while some of them continue to try and learn the new terminology with offensive coordinator, Matt Canada. Even running backs Benny Snell Jr. and Anthony McFarland Jr. got in the fold on Thursday, as noted by Wallace.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Delontae Scott isn't a name known by many, but he continued his week-long theme of making plays. With injuries throughout the defense last season, Scott was one of many guys that got some playing time. He played just seven defensive snaps and two plays on special teams, so he didn't get much of a chance to prove himself. In January, the Steelers re-signed Scott to a future contract.

Scott went to Southern Methodist University (SMU) from 2015-2019, redshirting his first year on campus and then playing on the field for four years. He broke out in his final year at SMU, racking up 17 tackles for loss and nine sacks, as well as two forced fumbles. Before the Steelers signed Scott to their practice squad last September, he was originally with the Green Bay Packers.

Is Scott a dark-horse contender to make the 53-man roster? Would you say the same for Cody White? If they don't make it, are they destined for the Steelers' practice squad? Are you already concerned about the CB depth with the two injuries? Let us know your thoughts from training camp so far by commenting on our social media sites, or in the comment section below!
