Interestingly enough, Whaley is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and went to the University of Pittsburgh for college. He was eventually brought on as a pro personnel coordinator for the Steelers where he worked for 10 years before leaving for Buffalo.
Whaley worked directly under outgoing general manager Kevin Colbert, so his familiarity with the organization should be noted. While with Pittsburgh, Whaley helped scout and draft defensive players such as Lamarr Woodley, Troy Polamalu and Lawrence Timmons.
Will Whaley's background with the organization be enough to propel him into the front-runner position for the next Steelers general manager? We will continue to keep you posted as this story develops. Click to comment below!
