Steelers Still Being Connected To Jimmy Garoppolo By Unjustified Reports

The Pittsburgh Steelers made their decision back in early March. That decision was to go out and sign Mitchell Trubisky. They passed on opportunities to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo, Carson Wentz, Deshaun Watson, and Aaron Rodgers. And when I say they passed on them I mean they likely didn't have much interested at all.

Steelers Jimmy G

Now back on March 14, NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that the Steelers had checked in on Garoppolo, but ultimately decided to go with Trubisky instead. This was coming on the heels of Garoppolo undergoing shoulder surgery causing plenty of teams to lose interest and go in other directions.

The #Steelers had been in the mix on Jimmy G with the #49ers, but signing Mitch Trubisky means they are out. The #Colts still have interest in Jimmy Garoppolo.

After the Steelers signed Trubisky they went ahead and drafted quarterback Kenny Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Currently as we stand today Pickett isn't ready to be the Steelers opening day starter. Instead that will likely fall on the shoulders of Trubisky who is currently taking all of the first team reps in Pittsburgh.

But now we have reports from Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio that connect Garoppolo to the Steelers. Still. Even after they signed Trubisky, and drafted Pickett. We're here to tell you that there is zero chance that the Steelers are concerned with Garoppolo. It's not going to happen.

This is what Florio wrote in his latest story a few hours ago:

Over the weekend, we put together a list of the full universe of teams that should be considering the possibility of trading for Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. Now that the Panthers have landed Mayfield, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo becomes the next veteran signal-caller to potentially land with a new team.

So which teams should be considering making a play for Garoppolo? Here’s our attempt to identify the full list of franchises, in no particular order — whether he’s traded or eventually released.

The Steelers.

If rookie Kenny Pickett won’t be ready, the question becomes whether Garoppolo would be better than Mitch Trubisky. Many would say that, despite Garoppolo’s inability to get the 49ers over the top, he is.

The Cleveland Browns topped the list that Florio put together, but the team second on his list was the Steelers. Is Garoppolo even that much better than Trubisky? If he was, don't you think the 49ers would've found a trade partner by now? If a player is THAT good teams wouldn't shy away from him even if he was having shoulder surgery. Look at what teams did when a 22 time rapist was available. They fell all over each other trying to sign him.

Don't read into this report. It's just Florio throwing stuff against a wall.
