Steelers Candid Head Coach Mike Tomlin Responds to Claim that Steeler Nation Itself is a Part of the "Noise" Outside of the Locker Room in 2022

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin took to the podium again on Tuesday afternoon for his weekly press conference. He addressed the latest on the injury front, changes to the defensive depth chart, and what we can expect against the New York Jets on Sunday. With the team currently sitting at 1-2, many other questions were also asked about possible alterations to the team, and possible causes for the team's slow start.

Tomlin was quick to state that the team has been pretty "hacked off" about their two-game losing streak. He did however state that he felt that the team had "gotten better with every outing," and that he feels Mitch Trubisky is "improving in all areas." When asked about possible distractions and tuning out the noise per say, Tomlin clarified with these comments:

"Questions from you guys [the media]," Tomlin said with a smile. "Which I anticipated. And that's why I wanted to display the resolve that I want our team to display."

When asked specifically about the fan base, Tomlin elaborated:

"Our fans are not an issue," Tomlin continued about Steeler Nation itself being a possible distraction. "We love our fans and the enthusiasm that they bring. We're not gonna make that a negative. They care and that's an awesome thing."

Tomlin and this franchise have been under scrutiny, even during their Week 1 win against the Cincinnati Bengals.  The offense has been stagnant (only averaging 18 points per game), which has led to the defense being on the field entirely too long during the first three weeks of the season. Time of possession on offense has been a massive issue, which has also led the defense into similar subpar statistics we saw from them in 2021.

With all that said, Tomlin made it clear that these issues are fixable, and he intends to work with this entire organization to fix them. One thing is for sure however, Steeler Nation is not a part of the problem, and if anything, the energy we're providing this franchise is a positive.
