Steelers Promising LT Dan Moore Jr. is Settling in Finely During Training Camp After an "Extremely Difficult" Rookie Season in 2021

The Pittsburgh Steelers had their struggles with offensive line play a season ago. However, left tackle, Dan Moore Jr. showed a lot of promise and was probably the one lone bright spot during a trying 2021 season for the big guys upfront. He had his struggles during his rookie season, but what rookie doesn't struggle at times? The team was comfortable enough with him to start at left tackle for 16 games a season ago, and they elected not to add to the position this off-season for a reason.

He's surely impressing his teammates, especially those getting 1-on-1 reps against him like LB Alex Highsmith during training camp.

In a recent media session during training camp, Moore Jr. talked about the difficulty of starting in the NFL at one of the most important positions in all of football.

“It was extremely difficult," Moore said of starting at left tackle via Trib Live's Chris Adamski.  "To put that in words, [how difficult it was], wouldn’t do it enough justice."

“But I was blessed enough with the opportunity, and in the Steelers having the confidence in me that allowed me to stay in the position so far [in 2022], and definitely all I want to do is improve on last year.”

“I was just happy that they trusted me last year to play that position,” said Moore via Trib Live. “And they keep faith in me now to keep playing it, for sure I’m grateful.”

“I knew I would make a big jump, based off it’s kind of natural anyone would,” Moore continued in the presser. “You do something once, obviously the second time around you feel that much better. And if you don’t, then probably won’t be there for a long time. So I’m just taking that, grasping it and not letting that opportunity slip past me.”

Teammate praise isn't all that Moore Jr. has received this summer. A guy that knows a thing or two about strong offensive line play, former Steelers guard, Ramon Foster has had extremely good things to say about the former Texas A&M Aggie as well.

“As far as what he did in year one, I think the the sky is the limit for a kid like him," Foster stated on The Ramon Foster Steelers Show on the DK Pittsburgh Sports YouTube channel. "Only five penalties throughout the year, because you can’t really look at their offensive stats. I’m not sure how many sacks he gave up as far as his detriment to the team, but I would think if he gave up eight, it would be a whole lot less the next year.”

“He was always available. He played almost every snap last year, and he was just a good part of this team.”

“But the fact that they felt confident with a rookie at left tackle DK, I think that kind of puts him a little bit above most when you’re looking at how you judge him.”

Moore Jr. should continue to impress as training camp moves a long! He has a chance to be the franchise's left tackle for years to come. He doesn't have an easy job though, protecting the blindside of whomever is under center for the Steelers in 2022.
