As we inch closer to the first NFL preseason game of 2022 for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team is still currently deciding who their starting quarterback will be come Week 1 in September. Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph and first round pick, Kenny Pickett have all shown flashes of positivity in training camp the last two weeks in Latrobe, PA, but only one will emerge as the team's signal-caller to start the season under center.

With the stakes high, and the competitive spirit even higher for this quarterback room in Pittsburgh, Trubisky had a chance to join SiriusXM NFL Radio this weekend to talk about his relationship with his fellow QB's, sharing his veteran tips, and thoughts on Steelers quarterback coach, Mike Sullivan.

"It's a fun quarterback room, lots of talent all around. So everyday, we're competing, we're pushing each other, and for me, I love to share my experience with the young guys. Any pointers, any tips that I've learned through my past that can help them, I think it just speeds them up and makes the room even better. And that's what you want as a group, just pushing each other, making each other better."

"When I'm able to help those guys and share my experiences, I think that just helps me as well, because it's forward-thinking, you're in the moment, you're thinking about the game, and you're just progressing. So we're pushing each other as a group, and they're a lot of fun to be around. So, we have fun in the quarterback room."

"Coach Sullivan does a great job of keeping every thing light and fun, but definitely focused."

With the team releasing its first official depth chart on Friday, Trubisky was listed as the starting quarterback, and for now, it's still his job to lose. By most reports so far during training camp, Rudolph has looked the most consistent/efficient, Pickett has shown the most progression, but it's Trubisky who has the best resume to date per head coach, Mike Tomlin.

"We're not going to micromanage or over manage this quarterback competition," Tomlin told the media earlier in training camp. "The depth chart will not rest on every throw. I know that you guys will want to ask me every day and every throw, but we're going to be a little bit more steady than that. I think it's important from a leadership perspective to not over manage it, to not be too impulsive, and so that's what I relate to those guys, and our actions will continue to display that mindset."

Training camp is just the first step in this journey for this particular competition, as preseason will likely ultimately determine the team's starting quarterback for the regular season. With still more than a month left however until the season opener, the battle for the QB1 spot is wide open.
