The Pittsburgh Steelers may have a good problem on their hands after Saturday's preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks. All three quarterbacks played well and moved the ball down the field for the offense as the Steelers defeated the Seahawks 32-25. The team's QB room even impressed the future 1st-ballot Hall of Fame QB Ben Roethlisberger, who they're trying to succeed as the next starting quarterback of the black and gold.

In the 2022 preseason opener, quarterbacks Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett all performed well in their debuts. Just ask Head Coach Mike Tomlin, who addressed their performances after the game and seemed pleased with the guys vying for that coveted QB1 spot.
“You know, he moved his group,” answered Tomlin about Pickett’s performance via Steelers.com. “He played situational football. He displayed a competitive spirit. A lot of good things to build on from a first performance standpoint.”“I could say the same thing about all three [quarterbacks], to be honest with you. They moved their units. They did the informal things associated with the position from a leadership and communication standpoint. They were engaged. It was a good first time out for all three. Obviously we’ll comb through it tomorrow and evaluate it in that way.”
Having three guys perform well in a clear 3-way competition may just open the door for the black and gold to have a few other options. We opened a discussion late Saturday evening about a hypothetical trade scenario with the New York Jets that would send Rudolph to the big city after their QB1 Zach Wilson sustained a scary injury.

Since then, Wilson's injury situation has been updated and it's less severe than people initially thought for the young Jets' QB. He'll only miss a few weeks after undergoing knee surgery. The latest trade speculation has the team potentially sending Rudolph to the Detroit Lions by the end of the week, a former NFL General Manager told 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi earlier today.

If the Steelers' could get a 4th or 5th round pick for Rudolph's services, it could be a possible steal for the organization. Rudolph's trade stock should be rising with the 4th-year veteran performing well during training camp in Latrobe and completing nine of his 15 passes on the night with one touchdown in the Steelers' preseason opener. He dropped a beautiful ball right into the bread basket of mesmerizing rookie WR George Pickens for his lone TD pass on Saturday.
