Steelers Signing LB Myles Jack to Two-Year Contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing middle linebacker Myles Jack to a two-year contract worth $16 million dollars. Jack signed a four-year, $57 million extension that included $33.06 million guaranteed in September 2019 with Jacksonville, a deal that at the time made him the NFL's third-highest-paid inside linebacker.

Jack was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday. He finished the 2021 season with 108 tackles, and 3 tackles for a loss in 15 games for the Jags. Some Steelers fans may remember Jack from his multiple big plays against the Steelers.

He was the Jaguars Walter Payton Man of the Year Award nominee, and his leadership will be missed in Jacksonville.

"Myles has made a positive contribution on and off the field in Jacksonville, providing leadership in our locker room as a captain and making a significant impact on the First Coast community," Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said. "His recognition as the team's 2021 Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee is indicative of his commitment to inspiring positive change in those around him. We appreciate all he has done for our organization and wish him the best."

Jack will instantly upgrade the middle linebacker position for the Steelers. It's still unclear at this point if the Steelers are going to move on from fellow former Jag Joe Schobert. Schobert's release would save the Steelers $7.8 million dollars against the cap this year. They could increase that number to over $9 million with a post June 1 designation.

Jack, 26, has started 82 games over his six-year career. During that time, he has 513 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, 3 interceptions, and 6.5 sacks. He was a second round selection out of the UCLA.

MORE TO COME SHORTLY.
