New Report Insists Steelers OC Matt Canada Will Be Fired After Inconsistent 2022 Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense has picked things up a little bit as of late. Early in the season, their numbers were down there with the worst in the NFL. Rookie quarterback, Kenny Pickett had continued to show the signs of progression that you would want to see out of a first-year guy. While the 17.6 points per game still ranks just 29th in the NFL, the offense's 320.0 total yards per contest now sits at 23rd.

Offensive coordinator, Matt Canada has been everyone's main target for criticism. Now in his second season in his position in Pittsburgh, there haven't been many (if any) improvements. As a result, rumors have circulated all season regarding his job security. While it was always unlikely that he would be let go in the middle of the season, his prospects for 2023 still look quite bleak. Via Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The FanRay Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette thinks Canada will be gone after the 2022 season.

Again, that's despite a few improvements over the past month or so. Canada would seemingly have to do a lot in the final two weeks in order to secure his position for 2023. Perhaps two good performances from the offense on top of a sneaky playoff appearance could keep Canada around. Sitting at 7-8, it's still a possibility. In fact, the hopes continue to grow.

On top of winning the final two AFC North contests, the Steelers would need some help elsewhere. These final two weeks may be the final measuring stick for Canada's future chances of sticking as OC. Maybe that means he'll bring out more Connor Heyward jet sweeps from his trick bag.

Do you guys think Canada should be gone? If so, who would you look at as the new OC for the 2023 Steelers? What does the offense need in order to continue to improve? Share your thoughts and feelings in the comment section below, yinz!
