Roosevelt Nix was just released from the Pittsburgh Steelers. A few days ago, none of us would have foreseen this move. That was until the Steelers went out and signed Derek Watt to a 3-year $9.75M contract. The Steelers don't normally keep two fullbacks on the roster, and last year, they barely kept one. Cutting Nix saves about $1M from the Steelers salary cap.
Nix was a fan favorite and big hitter for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Whether it was hitting the first player in the hole on running plays, or racing 40 yards to make big tackles on special teams, the fans grew to love him for his high effort, great instincts, and of course, big hits.
Last year, Nix spent most of the year inactive. He injured his knee at the end of the first game of the season, then didn't return until after the bye in week 8. In his first game back against the Miami Dolphins he helped the Steelers to their best running game of the year with James Conner racking up 145 yards and a touchdown. This would be the only game Nix played in its entirety. After re-injuring his knee the following game, he would be inactive for one more week before he was placed on Injured Reserve, ending his season.
