Report: Steelers Make Second Round of Cuts

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their second round of cuts today:

They include linebacker Calvin Bundage, wide receiver Tyler Simmons, running back Pete Guierrero, offensive lineman Aviante Collins, and surprisingly, they have waived defensive back Antoine Brooks Jr.

This last one comes as a real surprise due to the fact that reports were that Brooks was having a strong camp. He also played well in his preseason playing time prior to his injury, and many had him marked as a serious competitor for the starting nickel-corner slot. The team clearly felt differently, and determined it was not enough to warrant him a spot on the roster.

Brooks could return to the team if he were to clear waivers. He would be placed on IR if cleared, and then would have to be waived and re-signed after. A disappointing end to a promising camp from Brooks.

This is the second of three rounds of cuts, with the next one being the biggest, cutting from 80 players to the final 53 for the season. We will continue to update on cuttings and signings as the preseason wears on.
