The cornerback position is seen as a major need for the Pittsburgh Steelers this off-season. Despite signing Levi Wallace and bringing back Ahkello Witherspoon last off-season, it's a major area of need once again. Witherspoon's injuries and inconsistent performances cause room for concern there. Additionally, Cam Sutton is a free agent, the team's best CB the past few years now. General manager Omar Khan has plenty of draft picks in which he could pursue a corner.

Free agency, of course, is another option, especially if Sutton ends up leaving. The rumors have already started flowing, as it's already the off-season for 30 NFL teams. On Thursday, Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan reported a rumor that's been floating around from Radio Row, which is the conglomerate of media in Arizona this week for the Super Bowl. That's right, the Steelers are reportedly interested in Baltimore Ravens cornerback, Marcus Peters.

This would be quite an interesting signing for several reasons. First, he's obviously played his last few seasons for an AFC North rival in the Baltimore Ravens. Before that, he spent some time with the Los Angeles Rams. Peters isn't really at the peak of his career anymore, but he would bring a tough streak to the defense. He's not afraid to get physical on the outside and can create turnovers despite his age.

While he ended up being selected 18th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Steelers did have some interest in him. Coming out of the University of Washington, he had some off-the-field character concerns that led to some buzz of him possibly falling in the draft. The Kansas City Chiefs ended up drafting him in the middle of the first round, just four picks before the Steelers took Bud Dupree.

Dupree was seen as a steal at the time, so former GM Kevin Colbert may not have taken Peters. The interest in the cornerback was there though, as the Steelers met with him in the pre-draft process back in 2015. The Kansas City Chiefs ended up drafting him, where he was quite successful. In his eight-year career, Peters has made three Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams. He's always been known as a ballhawk, as he has 32 career interceptions, which is tied for fourth-most amongst active players.

After missing all of the 2021 campaign with a torn ACL, Peters returned to start 13 games this past year for the Ravens. He racked up an interception, two fumble recoveries, and six pass deflections at the age of 29. Of 118 qualifying cornerbacks, Pro Football Focus ranked Peters 49th in 2022 with a 65.9 overall grade. He still did quite well in coverage, while also excelling as a blitzer off the outside. Now 30 years old, Peters would likely come at a cheap cost.

Would you want Khan to sign Peters this offseason? If so, what is the most you would pay him considering his age? How big of an addition would he be to the Steelers defense? Share your thoughts in the comment section below, yinz!
