After Brian Flores left for the defensive coordinator position with the Minnesota Vikings, the Pittsburgh Steelers have presumably found their new linebackers coach. The Steelers hired Aaron Curry, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks. Curry has spent the previous four seasons coaching for the Seahawks, with the last three being as an assistant defensive line coach. This will be Curry's first chance at running a position group by himself, and this is a position group that definitely needs some help, both from a roster and a coaching prospective.

Unlike most of the coaches that the Steelers hire, Curry is both young and experienced, both as a player and a coach. Curry was formerly the 4th overall pick by the Seahawks, but he flopped as a player in the NFL. After four seasons Curry was finished in the league. While some would say that's a bad thing, it isn't always the star players that end up being the best coaches.

The linebacker core for Pittsburgh is still very uncertain, with Myles Jack and Mark Robinson being the only players currently under contract for the 2023 season at the middle linebacker position. But it's likely that Curry will coach the Steelers outside linebackers with veteran coach Jerry Olsavsky sticking to the inside.

Will Curry thrive on the Steelers' coaching staff?

Since Curry was just the assistant defensive line coach in Seattle, it's hard to tell from outsider's perspective whether this is a good hire or not. The Steelers aren't known for going big game hunting for assistant coaches, so getting a young but experienced coach is a good sign for them. Either way, Curry will have his hands full right off the bat with helping to assemble a new linebacker core. There's some reasons to be cautiously optimistic, but all we can do is wait and see. If Curry can develop into a quality coach, this would be a major accomplishment for the Steelers.

What do you think of the Steelers signing Aaron Curry? Will he show off his coaching skills that no one outside of Seattle saw, or is this yet another one-contract wonder that's gone in 3 years? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
