Former Steelers Player A Bit Judgmental About Kenny Pickett's 2023 Offseason Workouts

Pittsburgh Steelers fans have been enjoying watching their future franchise quarterback, Kenny Pickett, back in the "lab" this offseason. Pickett has been very open since the season ended early for the Steelers that he doesn't relax very well. He told Pat McAfee he spent a week in his apartment decompressing and then needed to get back to work.

He has been regaling fans with videos of his offseason workouts on social media. This includes videos from his personal QB coach Tony Racioppi.

Steelers Podcaster: Don't Put Too Much Stock In Pickett's Videos

But not every former player is a fan of those videos. Former Steelers linebacker, Arthur Moats, said on his show The Arthur Moats Experience, that too much emphasis gets placed on these videos:

"I'm probably not the right person to ask, I always feel some type of way about offseason workout videos. I don't get overly enamored one way or another because we're talking about a setting where there is no defense, there is no rush, and there is nothing going on except you in a controlled climate making throws on air. At the NFL level, everybody is talented so whatever."

Moats did acknowledge that it is likely not Pickett himself posting the videos, but he still feels they do not offer a genuine look at a player's growth or performance:

"You should look elite. Kenny looks great right now, absolutely, but I want to see what it looks like when obviously you got the rush out there, when obviously you got to read the defense. Kenny could drop any video, Mason (Rudolph) could drop a video, we're gonna be over here like if you ain't know it was Mason, you like this dude got a cannon over here."

Moats goes on to say that other QB's have done that in the past, dressed up like someone else, and fooled people while making a video.

Eli Manning once dressed up as a walk-on at Penn State.

"If you dress Mason Rudolph up and you don't know it's Mason and Mason drop a minute-long clip of him just throwing routes on there, you would be like 'Yo, who is this kid right here? We need him.' But then you obviously know when the actual game happens, it's not gonna be as smooth, it's not gonna look as clean."

He did go on to say that the videos aren't all bad. While they may not give fans the most accurate impression of how well the player's game is improving, it is positive that they are working on their game at all. Moats also points out another, rather ironic, positive:

"I salute Kenny, I'm glad he's working. I'd much rather see videos of him working than videos of him in compromising positions per se. So shout out to Kenny for that right there, never bad thing to be working hard, and getting a head start on the 2023 season. Think about AB (Antonio Brown), when AB used to post workout videos around the clock, he wasn't getting in as much trouble. Now we don't see any posted workout videos around the clock and he's talked about a lot differently now, that's all I'm saying."

"L. Bell (Le'Veon Bell), when he posted the workout videos, he was in the good. When he steered away from the workout videos and started being rap and all sort of stuff, it got kind of hot and murky. Then he started going back to the boxing vids, he didn't lay low again and he's good. I know this is a bad part of the cycle because he just dropped a new song. Dangerous territory right now, he starts thinking, 'I'm not working out, I'm gonna do this.'"
