On Tuesday morning, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager, Omar Khan spoke at the 2023 NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. He updated Steeler Nation with some Steelers news regarding contract negotiations with cornerback, Cam Sutton, revealed the team's draft strategy involving their big board, and gave his thoughts on just how long he wants quarterback, Mitch Trubisky, in the Steel City.

The QB2 position has been a hot topic in Pittsburgh this offseason. With rumors that Mason Rudolph "hasn't closed the door" on coming back, but essentially wants out, and Trubisky being a possible cap casualty, speculation has begun regarding who will be the primary backup to rising signal-caller, Kenny Pickett. Earlier this year, President Art Rooney II made it clear that he wants to keep Trubisky, and on Tuesday, Khan re-delivered that same message:
Khan said backup QB Mitch Trubisky has been “awesome” since he arrived. He is under contract for one more year but Khan said he could envision Trubisky with the Steelers beyond the 2023 season.

According to Spotrac.com, Trubisky is due around $10.625 million dollars in 2023, which is extremely high for a backup quarterback. But the Steelers front office has expressed their liking to Trubisky's leadership, as well as his positive relationship with Pickett.

Who Will be the Steelers QB2 in 2023?
Trubisky was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears with the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played for the Bears from 2017 to 2020, starting in 50 games and completing 64% of his passes for 10,609 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions.
After the 2020 season, Trubisky signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills as a backup quarterback. He played in a limited role during the 2021 season, primarily coming in as a backup to Bills starting quarterback, Josh Allen. He completed 51 of 71 passes for 552 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception during the 2021 regular season.
Trubisky's career in the NFL has been somewhat controversial, with some observers criticizing the Bears for drafting him so high in the first round and others praising his talent and potential. Despite the mixed reviews, Trubisky has shown that he has the potential to be a capable quarterback in the league. According to Khan, so do the Steelers.
