Pittsburgh Steelers fans and sports analysts waited anxiously to see what the team would do under the direction of new GM Omar Khan. The start of free agency began Monday with the opening of the "legal tampering" window. As you would expect, things got off to a fast start as teams all over the NFL made moves for the players that best fit their needs.

On the first day, the only major news coming from Pittsburgh was that Cameron Sutton signed with the Detroit Lions and to make up for that loss, Patrick Peterson from the Minnesota Vikings became a member of the black and gold. The Steelers might be more cautious than other NFL teams when it comes to free agency signings, but that doesn't make them any less effective.

Steelers' Best Bets From Available Free Agents
The free agency period is a long way from being over with and while a number of players were taken on Monday, there are still quite a few waiting to be picked up. Let's take a look at who among the players still available make the most sense for Pittsburgh.
Isaac Seumalo - Guard - Philadelphia Eagles - Age: 29
The Steelers have what they hope is their franchise quarterback in Kenny Pickett. What they need now is an offensive line that can protect him and allow him to get the ball to the amazing tools he has on offense. Even though they already added Nate Herbig from the Jets he's never been a week 1 starter during his time in the NFL. Adding Isaac Seumalo is still a priority. He has played all five positions on the OL. He might be a bit too expensive for the Steelers' blood as Spotrac has his value at roughly $12 million a year. But good guards are hard to find, the league isn't just overflowing with them. Never say never in this league and while our OL improved in 2022, Seumalo would be a huge step up from what we have now.

Bobby Wagner - LB - Age: 32 - Los Angeles Rams
After just one season in L.A., the Rams are releasing Wagner per NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, which will not officially occur until the start of the new league year on March 15, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo notes. This surprising cut comes after an impressive season where Wagner finished the year playing in all 17 games. He recorded 124 total tackles, 6 sacks, 2 interceptions and 5 passes defensed. The mere thought of Wagner suiting up in black and gold would definitely give Steeler Nation something to be excited about, as he could be the first inside linebacker since Ryan Shazier was in the Steel City to truly bring back that dominate presence in the middle of the field. At this point however, it sounds like the ball is more on Wagner's court, than it is the Steelers.
Greg Gaines - DT - Los Angeles Rams - Age: 27
Greg Gaines doesn't always get the attention he deserves. He stepped up and played the nose tackle position when he needed to fill in and he did it really well. He is strong against the run which is an area where the Steelers' defense struggled at times last year. But he is not one-dimensional, he is also an excellent pass rusher. He had 8.5 sacks in his last two seasons. He dealt with some injuries in 2022, so that might impact value. Gaines is also known as a well-respected member of the locker room and a fan favorite. Spotrac has him valued at $7.7 million a year.
Evan Brown - Center/Guard - Detroit Lions - Age: 26
Evan Brown is another OL man that might seem out of the Steelers' price range as Spotrac has his value at roughly $10 million a year. However, he might be willing to work something out with a team to get a multi-year deal. He was a backup in Detroit that ended up starting at center. He also has shown talent at guard. Having a player as versatile and athletic as Brown is valuable to a team like Pittsburgh with a young QB.

Parris Campbell - WR - Indianapolis Colts - Age: 26
Parris Campbell struggled with injuries early in his career, but last season, he played in all 17 games for the Colts. He is an ideal option for Pittsburgh that may want to add depth to the WR room without breaking the bank. Campbell was a second-round pick that is known for his speed and explosiveness. He works well in the slot which makes him the perfect addition to play alongside Diontae Johnson and George Pickens on the outside. While some may be saying we don't need a WR because we have Calvin Austin III, Austin has not been able to prove himself in the NFL yet. Having a vet in the WR room helps take the pressure off the whole gang and changes the energy of our offensive plays.
