The Best Of What Is Left For The Steelers In 2023 Free Agency

In what has been an overall solid performance for Pittsburgh Steelers' first-year GM Omar Khan in the free agency, there are still some possible additions that we could see come to Pittsburgh.

What is left of the Steelers' wide receiver room?

The first guy I would at least want to look at is wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. After seeing that Steven Sims had been picked up by the Houston Texans, I took a look into what is left of the Steelers' wide receiver room, and it is not great. Bringing in a veteran guy like Beckham could really help out this young core of guys. When healthy, he is a good player, but injuries have since held him back from playing in recent years. This could make him potentially cheaper than what people think if he decides to come to Pittsburgh.

Odell Beckham Jr. made a one-handed catch for a touchdown in the second quarter that helped the Giants take a 14-3 lead against the Cowboys on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

Left tackle Taylor Lewan remains on the market as teams wait for him to get healthy. Lewan is coming off his second torn ACL in three seasons. Because of that he's only played 20 games during that three year span. Lewan was hurt during week 2 of last season and it's likely he won't be completely helathy until training camp rolls around. The three time Pro Bowler has expressed interested in playing for Mike Tomlin and the Steelers for a few months. It's not likely the Steelers would make a move for Lewan until after the NFL Draft in late April. If the team is unable to upgrade the position via the draft then it could be time to call Lewan if they're not comfortable with Dan Moore Jr for another season.

26-year-old cornerback Rock Ya-Sin is a player I wouldn't mind if the Steelers picked up. They already got their veteran presence in the cornerback position with Patrick Peterson, why not bring in a younger corner like Ya-Sin? Ya-Sin at one point was a projected first-round pick and just fell short of that being picked 34 in the 2019 NFL Draft. He could be a very solid addition to the team and could at worst be a depth player for years to come.

With the now recent loss of Terrell Edmunds to the Philadelphia Eagles, it is time to look for his replacement, or at least someone to fill a hole. 25-year-old Taylor Rapp is who I feel is definitely the best fit to fill Edmunds' position. Watching Rapp play, he fits the old Steeler style of safety, where he flies around and wants to hit someone as hard as he can, something we haven't seen too much of in Pittsburgh in recent years. With free agency getting slimmer and slimmer a price that was most likely at one point high, may be lower than we think.

The last player that I would like the Steelers to pick up is defensive tackle Matthew Ioannidis. What has been one of the weaker links to the Steelers' great defense has been the interior of the defensive line. After starting his career as a defensive end, he was moved to the interior toward the middle of his career. He has been a relatively consistent player and could help fill a position of need.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning (10) is sacked by Washington Redskins defensive tackle Matthew Ioannidis (98) during the second quarter of an NFL football game, Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, in East Rutherford, N.J.
