In the past few years, we've seen more and more NFL players start their own podcasts, including a few of our very own Pittsburgh Steelers. When quarterback Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement, almost no one anticipated that he would start his own podcast: Footbahlin With Ben Roethlisberger. Steelers captain and heart of the defense, Cam Heyward, has joined in on the fun as well with Not Just Football. Former Steelers linebacker, Arthur Moats, stars on The Arthur Moats Experience. As it turns out, former team MVP and DPOY, T.J. Watt, might have his own podcast in the works too.

T.J. is beyond just an incredible athlete and game-changer. He is also one of three brothers who have been in the league. His oldest brother, J.J. Watt, spent the bulk of his career with the Houston Texans where he earned three DPOY honors. He joined the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons before announcing his retirement at the end of the 2022 season. The middle brother, Derek Watt, has been on the Steelers with his brother T.J. for the past three seasons after spending his first four with the Los Angeles Chargers. His future is still up in the air at the moment, but it does not appear that he will be returning to Pittsburgh.

Out of the three, J.J. has the biggest social media presence. He frequently tweets, posts on Instagram, and he isn't shy to join a podcast or interview either. Tuesday, J.J. was asked if he'd consider starting a podcast similar to the Kelce brother's show, New Heights. He revealed that he's trying to recruit T.J. for a podcast of their own.
"We've talked about it. We've seen the success that they have had, and they do a very good job of it. My brother and I have talked about it."
Inspired by the Kelce brother's podcast, New Heights, J.J. stated that he's even talked with Travis Kelce on the matter.
"I actually talked to Travis about this last week because now that I'm retired, I can do whatever I want. I mean I'm not winning and losing every week. But if you do a podcast, and you lose that week, you have to still go on and talk about random things. All that's going on in your head is 'I want to get back out there,' so I'm trying to convince T.J., but we'll see."
New Heights, starring Travis and Jason Kelce, has been a huge success and is consistently one of the highest ranked sports podcasts. They've gained traction from not only being top-tier talent at their respective positions, but for having inside takes on the NFL, giving game reviews, telling funny childhood stories and interviewing players around the league.

WAVE SPORTS + ENTERTAINMENT
This wouldn't be the first time that the Watt brothers would be breaking into a new field. In May of 2020, Ultimate Tag premiered on Fox and the three brothers hosted the show. Although the show was canceled after the first season, the Watts brought in an entire audience of NFL fans who may have not watched otherwise. It's safe to say, people are interested in the Watt brothers.

Watt's Next?
Now that J.J. is retired, it wouldn't be shocking to see him break into the NFL media world. With the type of personality that they look for and a career that speaks for itself, he has what it takes to be successful in that space. As for the podcast, we'll have to wait and see what happens. One thing is for sure, here at SteelerNation, we'll be tuning in.
