The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the middle of finding talent in rookie minicamp. All the rookies, from first-round selection Broderick Jones to Fort Valley State free safety, Tyler Moore. This is a crucial part of the process for the team as they find who will get roster spots, how their draft selections respond to the coaching and what the team's needs might look like moving forward after camp. In a recent media engagement, Head Coach, Mike Tomlin talked about these specific players when asked questions about the new rookies.

Steelers Taking A Look At Quarterback Options

Tanner Morgan is an undrafted free agent for the Steelers, who was brought in and is currently on the 90-man roster. The 24-year-old quarterback from the University of Minnesota has been running drills at camp and this is what Tomlin said about him in his recent interview.

"He's a guy that's played a lot, he's a six-year guy. He's got some leadership intangible qualities. He's been highly productive within that program. His resume is pretty extensive for a guy in that position."

Steelers Getting Their First Look At Their First-Round Selection

Jones, a player that the Steelers felt the need to trade up for, has gotten the ability to work with offensive line coach, Pat Meyer this rookie minicamp. Jones, college coach, Kirby Smart, had nothing but positive things to say about Jones and noted his enthusiasm to be coached in the NFL when he was preparing for the draft. When asked about this, Tomlin responded with the following

"I would agree with that. But you know, I think that can be reflective of everybody in an introductory minicamp weekend like this man. If somebody's a little dull in this setting man, that's probably a problem."

Steelers New Need In The Slot?

With the departure of Arthur Maulet, the Steelers are looking for a new slot corner for the team. Cory Trice Jr. is a player that many scouts anticipated would go much earlier than pick 241, which is where he went to Pittsburgh. When Tomlin was asked if he was able to glean anything from the lengthy corner, or why he slipped, he responded:

"Hadn't done enough yet to probably appropriately answer that"

Other Quarterbacks Getting Looks From The Steelers?

Morgan is not the only quarterback that the Steelers are looking at in camp. Quarterbacks, Bryce Perkins and Hunter Johnson are both present and getting worked out by the team. When Tomlin was asked about what he had seen from the signal-callers so far, he had this to say:

"Not a lot. We hadn't done a lot. They've been attentive and professional. And hopefully, we get an opportunity to see some more over the next two days., but just hadn't had a large enough sample size to paint with a broad brush at this juncture."

With the Steelers taking a look at all players and positions, it is important to find key depth pieces or players you think can become future starters from rookie minicamp. Everyone is excited, the players get their first chance to be on the field and the coaches get back into the football feel to see the talent they could be working with as the season progresses.
