PITTSBURGH – July 21, 2023Primanti Bros. and East End Brewing Company are again partnering to release their summertime collaboration, Almost Famous Pickle Beer – available exclusively at Primanti Bros. and the East End Brewing Co. Brewpub beginning Friday, July 21. The beer has sold out quickly each year of its production.

In addition to the usual hops and barley, the 2023 iteration of Almost Famous Pickle Beer was made with 1,600 pounds of fresh cucumbers, which were peeled, chopped and pureed to create the freshest possible beer. The 2023 version is kicked up with red pepper to give the palate a back-end spice that delivers a punch of heat.

“This year’s Almost Famous Pickle Beer is again born with some new tweaks to the recipe,” said Scott Smith, founder, East End Brewing Co. “We’ve enjoyed working on this collaboration with Primanti Bros for several years now. But like any long term relationship, after a while, it’s good to spice things up a bit.”

Almost Famous Pickle Beer has a subtle flavor built of the freshness of its fruit, vegetable and seasoning blend, with new- for-2023 red pepper.

In previous years, the beer has sold out in fewer than 48 hours. And, while you’ll be able to find it at 20-area Primanti Bros. restaurants and at the East End Brew Brewpub, the supply this year will still be scarce, as Primanti Bros. and East End Brewing Co. are producing a limited amount of the Almost Famous Pickle Beer.

“Each year this beer is a favorite, and this year is the best yet,” said Jim Prezioso, Director of Beverage at Primanti Bros. “It’s a reminder to hang on to the end of summer, slow down and enjoy a little bit of Pittsburgh.”

Almost Famous Pickle Beer will be available in commemoratively designed 16oz, cans and also sold as 4-packs to-go. It will be available at select Pittsburgh-area Primanti Bros. locations (full list at www.primantibros.com), and at East End Brewing Company’s Brewpub, 147 Julius St, Pittsburgh, PA 15206

About Primanti Brothers

In 1933, Joe Primanti opened a lunch cart in Pittsburgh's Strip District selling sandwiches to the hungry truckers who were coming and going at all times of the night. Encouraged by sales and positive feedback, Joe expanded to a small storefront where he was joined by his brothers Dick and Stanley and their nephew John DePriter. And that's how the very first Primanti Bros. location was born - Primanti Bros. currently has 45 locations, all dedicated to that early notion that folks deserve great food, with no pretense, for a good price.

About East End Brewing

Scott Smith founded East End Brewing Company in 2004 after quitting his engineering job at a big corporation, so he could bring fresh, local beer to Pittsburgh. Known for its flagship Big Hop American Ale, the brewery will release more than 50 different beers this year in kegs, cans and bottles at its 17,000-square-foot facility in Pittsburgh's Larimer neighborhood. East End Brewing has been called “The most celebrated local craft brewery,” by Pittsburgh Magazine, and has been named “Best Local Beer,” seven years in a row by Pittsburgh City Paper.
