The Pittsburgh Steelers front office under General Manager, Omar Khan has been extremely active throughout the 2023 offseason. The team has made several unconventional moves including signing a future Hall of Fame candidate in free agency (Patrick Peterson), a trade-up early in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and most recently, trading two offensive linemen just prior to the initial 53-man roster being set. Kendrick Green was dished to the Houston Texans while 2022 starting left guard, Kevin Dotson found a new home across the country and is slated to play for the Los Angeles Rams.

Green was very likely to be cut if he wasn't traded and it was hard to predict what the team was trying to do with Dotson after signing both Isaac Seumalo and Nate Herbig in free agency. The former fourth round selection started 30 games in three years with the Steelers and the change of scenery may be good for him as the fan base wasn't exactly a big aficionado of his.

Dotson is listed as the Rams backup left guard behind rookie, Steve Avila. He will have a better chance to see the field in Los Angeles as Pittsburgh will definitely go to Herbig to replace Seumalo in the event of an injury. Dotson is a solid run blocker from time to time, but has proven to get bullied on the inside when attempting to protect the passer.

While Green was expected to not be playing for the Steelers in 2023, Dotson's status was sort of up in the air. The trade murmurs were present, but nothing ever seemed like it was going to materialize. Khan and the front office took advantage of situations going on with other franchises to leverage the value of both Green and Dotson, leading to last-minute deals prior to the regular season kicking into high gear.

Steelers Former Lineman Believes Organization Thinks Highly Of Him

Dotson spoke with the media in Los Angeles as he joined his new team on Thursday. He mentioned the Steelers multiple times and when asked about what his new teammates were getting, he was confident that the folks in Pittsburgh would tell anyone that he is as selfless as they come.

"I'm a really team player. Everyone on the Steelers, they'll vouch for me knowing I'm a good guy, so I just try to bring that energy here too."

He acknowledged that, even though Pittsburgh decided to part ways with him, the entire franchise would side with him when it comes to understanding just how talented he is. There are no hard feelings, however, as the fourth-year lineman understands the NFL is not just for fun and games. It's an operation at the end of the day.

"I know what I'm capable of. I knew the Steelers knew what I was capable of, but, ya know, it's a business, you gotta do what you have to do to be great so they did what they had to do."

Dotson is spot on and his final comment definitely should resonate with Steelers fans. He, in a round-about-way, implied that the breakup with him and the organization that drafted him was necessary for both parties. The comments seem like they're coming from a 10-year veteran, not a guy still working under his first professional contract.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Dotson's on-field performances since 2020, he handled one of his first interviews like the ultimate professional. There have been many instances of former Steelers trashing the franchise and Dotson backed up the confidence he has in himself and knows everyone in Pittsburgh would vouch for him. If Avila ends up struggling early on, Dotson may have a legitimate chance to resurrect his career as a starter in the NFL.
