It was an ugly performance for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4. That's something that has become way too common for the AFC North squad, as blowout losses have been a regular occurrence the past few seasons. This time, it was at the hands of the Houston Texans, led by an unexperienced rookie quarterback. While the Steelers defense allowed 30 points, they spent a lot of time on the field.

After a disappointing Week 4 performance, Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin admitted in his press conference that changes will be made.
The Texans dominated time of possession, as the Steelers offense finished the day with just 225 total yards and 12 first downs. It was another pathetic performance from the offense, as Pittsburgh has an argument for the worst unit in the NFL. In the midst of the blowout loss, CBS commentators Spero Dedes and Adam Archuleta revealed something that Steelers Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada told them ahead of Week 4.
"One thing Matt Canada told us himself yesterday at their hotel: they're not quite built to come back from big leads. And so the way they start games [is] so critical [with a] young quarterback."
While this statement is true, it's hilarious on a multitude of reasons. First of all, Canada himself is a primary reason for why the offense isn't meant to come from behind. We've seen this in all three seasons of him as offensive coordinator, dating back to 2021 when Ben Roethlisberger was under center. The offense struggled that season as well, and they had their most success when Roethlisberger was able to go no huddle and call plays himself.

In his final season in 2021, Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense struggled under first-year coordinator Matt Canada.
While quick starts to games are key for every team, it is particularly true for the Steelers. Unfortunately, the team has never gotten off to quick starts in Canada's tenure. The offense has still yet to score any points on its opening drive in 2023. The unit has scored just seven points in the first quarter of the first four games, which came in Week 3 at the hands of Calvin Austin III's 72-yard touchdown.
Which Steelers Players Performed Well In Week 4?
Is Canada's assessment correct? Yes, but it's ironic in the fact that he's the culprit for why the offense needs to start fast. Essentially, the only thing that went right for the offense on Sunday was running back Najee Harris ran the ball very well. He's faced several critics in his three seasons in Pittsburgh, but he showed up in Week 4. He had 14 carries for 71 yards, an average of 5.1 yards per carry.
Unfortunately, game flow meant that he wasn't able to get the ball as much as the team would have liked. The Steelers were down from the get-go, which forced them to have to pass it a ton to try and come back. Whether people like it or not, Harris was more effective than his counterpart, Jaylen Warren. Many people have called for Harris' job, as Warren is more decisive in his running.

Steelers running back Najee Harris hasn't gotten off to a great start in 2023, but his Week 4 performance gives some hope for the remainder of the season.
Week 4 made it clear that it's a two-man backfield, while Harris remains the far superior talent in the running game. While there weren't many positives from this game, the running game is something to build off of. Harris was able to run with more of a purpose, as he broke off several tacklers. Overall, Canada's comments to Dedes and Archuleta aren't something that you want to hear from your offensive coordinator. Whether it's true or not, it's just not something that provides any benefit in saying.
Do you think the team will fire Canada during the Week 6 bye? Do you have any hope for the offense turning things around in 2023? What were your thoughts on Harris' performance in the contest? Share your thoughts in the comment section below, yinz!
