Terrible Play From Steelers Cornerbacks Could Make Joey Porter Jr. A Starter Soon

The Pittsburgh Steelers' loss in Week 4 was one of the worst performances from this organization in the last 20 years. Offensively, they looked horrible as quarterback Kenny Pickett only had 114 passing yards and one interception. He also suffered an injury that led to Mitch Trubisky coming in late in the game. The only player on offense that seemed to have any life was running back Najee Harris, who managed to get 71 yards despite having a pitiful offensive line. Defensively, as a whole, they did not look great, with their cornerbacks looking to be the biggest weakness.

The Steelers' Cornerbacks Were Their Biggest Area Of Concern

The team lost their leader of the position in Cam Sutton this past offseason, who signed with the Detroit Lions. This made the position seem like a weak spot in a rather strong defense. They then went out and brought in future Hall of Famer Patrick Peterson and drafted Joey Porter Jr., so fans became a little more confident in this rough spot. But the position has played as badly as anyone thought they might have from the start. Peterson's age is showing when he is out there, and he does not look like the Hall of Famer that fans were hoping for. The Steelers' other starting cornerback, Levi Wallace, who they brought in last season, has not played well either, except for a solid Week 3 performance. This awful play is wanting many people to bring change to the position.

The main frustration comes with Porter. When out there, he looks impressive and could bring a spark that this team very much needs. The stats don't lie when it comes to having Wallace and Peterson in, allowing a 61.4% completion rate, change is needed. It is time for Porter to be a starter and show what he can do on the field.

Even if they don't trust Porter yet, there is another former All-Pro cornerback who is rotting away on their bench. They brought Desmond King II into the organization and have hardly used him as well. He is only 28 years old, still has a ton to prove, and could be a replacement for Wallace or Peterson. It would be intriguing to see him and Porter as the starters this week, just to see how they perform together.

Fans can rejoice as there is hope that Porter will be the starter very soon. On Tuesday's media presser, Head Coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the role that Porter has. He responded by saying that he is putting himself in a position to be more of a factor. This could mean that he could be starting next week or a least getting an increase in reps per game.

Hopefully, for the Steelers' big AFC North rivalry game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5, the needed change is made, and fans can be at ease. If they don't make the change and Wallace along with Peterson continue to play poorly, then fans will be in for a long season.

So, what do you think Steeler Nation? Will there be a change a cornerback or will they continue to struggle? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
