Steelers' Arthur Moats Is Hilarious Comparing Chase Claypool To A Vending Machine "We Can See It...Is It Plugged In?"

Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan seemed to make the trade of a century when he unloaded underperforming wide receiver, Chase Claypool on the Chicago Bears. In return for the young receiver, the Bears gave the Steelers their second-round pick in 2023. That pick ended up practically being a first-round pick as it came in at 32 and the Steelers used it to select Joey Porter Jr. out of Penn State. Now Claypool has been traded again, this time to the Miami Dolphins and one of his new teammates used a strange analogy to pay him a compliment.

Miami has been on fire five weeks into the 2023 season, led by their excellent young quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The team currently leads the AFC East at 4-1, with their only loss being to the Buffalo Bills. Claypool's teammate and fellow receiver, Tyreek Hill, made a strange comparison about the new Dolphin

"What's crazy is, man, he looks like a vending machine out there, man, when he's running. Very fast. Very fluid in his routes. He's definitely gonna be a huge addition to this team," said Hill.

This comment had people puzzling over what Hill meant by this. Some think it is a reference to the fact that Claypool is a big-bodied receiver at 6'4" and 238 pounds, stocky like a vending machine. But one former Steelers linebacker, Arthur Moats, had a different take on the Claypool comparison on a recent episode of his podcast The Arthur Moats Experience with Deke.

"Technically he has the goods, he's just not delivering the goods. So he is kind of like the vending machine. He's just sitting there. We can see it. I know you're in there. Is it plugged in? It's like the lights aren't on on it."

Moats told his co-host Deke that the candy inside that you can't access is like Claypool's talent. You know it's there, there is everything you want, but it won't come out.

"You got Snickers, I see Sour Patch Kids. Deke, what candy you want? It's got Honey Twists, some Doritos, Reeses. Man, it's got all the Halloween candy and it's got sodas in there. You want a White Claw? It's the vending machine of all vending machines. This is arguably the top three vending machine in the NFL today."

He commented on how Claypool referred to himself as a top-three wide receiver in the league, despite underperforming for years. For his part, Claypool has refused to take responsibility for how badly things have gone, instead choosing to blame the offensive schemes. Moats noted that Claypool's arguments don't hold water if the moves to different cities haven't helped.

"It ain't working. We thought it was the outlet in Pittsburgh, so we went to Chicago to see if their outlet worked, but it's close to Canada, so they got the weird voltage (referring to European-style outlets), so now we shipped it down to Miami where the outlets are waterproof, so it should work, we'll see."

Claypool was unable to find any success while he was in Chicago, despite the Bears having high hopes for him connecting with quarterback Justin Fields. He seemed to lack effort or ambition and displayed a bad attitude about the team's usage of him. While Chicago has been plagued by losses, Claypool wasn't helping. The Bears never won a game when he was on the field. In fact, they finally snapped their 14-game losing streak while Claypool was inactive.

Steelers Lost Use Of The Chase Claypool Vending Machine Within Two Years

The Steelers selected Claypool in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He had an excellent rookie season that gave fans a lot of hope for his future. He finished the season with 62 receptions for 873 yards and nine receiving touchdowns. In his second season, Pittsburgh saw things begin to slip a bit. He was expected to do big things, but had only 59 receptions for 860 yards and two touchdowns. Things got worse in 2022 until he was finally traded after eight games.

Moats said he was also surprised that Claypool has continued to struggle so much. In his estimation, from the outside, Claypool appears to be the total package.

"He does have everything that you would want, big, tall, fast, strong."

But that package does not translate to on-field success. There are a lot of theories as to what exactly has gone wrong with him, including everything from flat-out immaturity, to the length of his T-Rex-like arms. If Claypool does not succeed in Miami, then it is hard to imagine him having many more chances in the league.
