The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Miami Dolphins are on the two opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to their offensive play. The Steelers rank near the bottom of the league in all major offensive statistical categories, while the Dolphins have the potential to be the best offense the NFL has ever seen. Miami is first in the league in offensive yards, while Pittsburgh ranks 30th, and a lot of the Dolphins' offensive success can be attributed to Head Coach Mike McDaniel and his schemes/play-calling.

Steelers' Matt Canada Is In Awe Of Miami's Offense
The Dolphins offense has many explosive play makers, including Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert, and De'Von Achane. McDaniel uses a lot of pre-snap motion to almost give his players a running start before the ball is snapped and to put them in the best position to make plays. He has been praised as an offensive guru, and rightfully so as not long ago this Dolphins team put up 70 points in a single game against the Denver Broncos.

Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada may be dragging the entire team down with him in 2023.
Steelers Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada has been the complete opposite. He has been ridiculed by fans and all across NFL media. His offense has been called predictable and it just isn't efficient or productive. Canada has struggled to get both the run game and the passing game going, which means it will be hard for the offense to move the ball down the field. In a media scrum on Thursday, Canada spoke about the Dolphins offense and how they are managing to be so explosive and efficient by using pre-snap motion.
"It's obviously just where you're at and what you're focused on and trying to get your players in the best position to make plays. They're doing a tremendous job, hats off to them and what they're doing. I don't think you can just jump in and see something and put it in. That's not something you can do."
Canada is saying he can't just implement something similar into his offense with the Steelers on such short notice, although he is in his third season as the team's offensive coordinator. Canada was known for using motion in his offense as the offensive coordinator and interim head coach at Maryland before he joined the Steelers organization. Saying you can't implement something when you have been with the team for three seasons as the play caller is just untrue. He had a chance to implement a more complex offense to best utilize his players over the past two seasons, he just didn't.

Steelers fans are hoping that the sun is setting on Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada's time in Pittsburgh.
McDaniel is in just his second season as the head coach and play-caller for the Dolphins, and he has found a way to be leaps and bounds ahead of Canada and the offense he has been running in Pittsburgh. McDaniel created this complex offense to fit the Dolphins in one year, while having his quarterback continuously going into concussion protocol during the 2022 season. Granted, the Dolphins have some experienced and highly skilled players on their roster. But their production can be attributed to the way McDaniel puts them in the best position to succeed.
Many thought Canada would be fired after his poor performance as an offensive coordinator in the 2022 season, and then again once the Steelers reached their bye week during the 2023 season. However, it seems that Canada will remain the play-caller for Pittsburgh until at least the end of the 2023 season. Hopefully he used the bye week to improve the offense while finding a way to be less predictable when calling plays.

Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada benefited from a late season offensive turnaround.
This is likely Canada's last chance to be a serious coach in the NFL, as it is hard to imagine another team will give him an opportunity after this poor stretch he has had in Pittsburgh where his offense has never had a 400-yard game. Some serious changes need to be made if he wants his offense to be able to compete near the same level as the Dolphins.
