The Pittsburgh Steelers have spent most of Matt Canada's tenure as offensive coordinator looking for answers, and so far, in 2023, they haven't seemed to find too many. While they find themselves near the top of the AFC North with a 6-3 record, there are plenty of opportunities for the team to improve, beginning with how Canada's offense performs. All fans know that when the pressure is on in the fourth quarter, Kenny Pickett finds a way to become clutch, but in order for Pittsburgh to make any playoff noise, they will need much more than that.

Steelers Must Defeat Browns For Canada To Keep Job Apparently
It seems as though Canada has been on the hot seat for most of his time as offensive coordinator for the Steelers, and 2023 has been no different, thanks to the Steelers getting out-gained in every single game so far in the campaign. The patience of both the fans and the media has grown incredibly thin, so much so that CBS Sports Radio host, Zach Gelb spoke rather bluntly about the situation.

Gelb brought up the Steelers on The Zach Gelb Show on Friday, and before long, the radio host was going off on Canada. If the Steelers are unable to come away victorious from their 2023 Week 11 battle with the Cleveland Browns, then Gelb can't see the Steelers having any reason to keep Canada on as coordinator. The fact that the Browns will be starting rookie, Dorian Thompson-Robinson on Sunday against the Steelers only made Gelb more certain that Canada's job would come down to the result of Sunday's game.
"If the Steelers lose this game to Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Kenny Pickett can't do jack on offense, and the Steelers' offense can't do anything, I don't want to hear Mike Tomlin defend his offensive coordinator after the game. If Matt Canada can't find a way to put more points on the board than Dorian Thompson-Robinson's Cleveland Browns, he needs to be shown the door, and he needs to be fired after this game."
Considering the fact that Tomlin has given Canada a ridiculously long leash that surpasses understanding, it's difficult to imagine any kind of drastic change happening regardless of how the Steelers' offense does against the Browns. If everything we have seen up to now hasn't been enough to make Pittsburgh change offensive coordinators, then this Sunday probably won't be any different.

Steelers Should Follow In Buffalo's Footsteps If Browns Win
Everyone knows that the Steelers can't seem to get more yardage than their opponent, but underneath all the negative statistics and reasons for frustration is the genuine truth that there are concrete reasons for Pittsburgh to be the 6-3 they are right now. Pittsburgh doesn't turn the ball over, and they take the ball away from their opponents; that is one big reason for the winning record.
Anytime an NFL team can avoid giving the ball away and then have their defense get the offense the ball back on a regular basis, wins will follow. Also, Pickett may not be the kind of quarterback you want for the first three quarters of a game, but there is no quarterback in the league who has a longer active streak of not throwing an interception entering Week 11.

Despite these reasons for Pittsburgh's unlikely success, Gelb can't see any other logical result of a Pittsburgh loss to the Browns on Sunday than to cut Canada loose from the Steelers. With the Buffalo Bills deciding to fire their offensive coordinator, Ken Dorsey, even though the Bills' offense has shown to be miles better than the Steelers, Gelb wants Pittsburgh to do the same and hold someone accountable for the lack of offensive production.
"We just saw the Buffalo Bills get rid of Ken Dorsey coming off a loss. You lose to Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and your offense looks lethargic and putrid; I don't want to see Matt Canada have a job on Monday."
The Steelers never base their movements off of what another team does, especially not when it comes to a significant upheaval of an offense that is looking a little bit more like a professional squad playing competent football over the last two weeks. Canada knows the microscope that is on him at all times, but he also knows that the Steelers somehow find themselves with a legitimate chance to make a run for a top spot in the AFC playoff seeding.
With way too much football left in 2023 to predict anything with certainty, expect the cry for Canada's job to continue with some regularity throughout the rest of 2023 unless some kind of major offensive explosion happens.
Should Matt Canada keep his job if the Steelers win a playoff game in 2023?
