With the offseason underway, the Pittsburgh Steelers need all hands on deck to find players that can fix this team. Unfortunately for them, one of those sets of hands will not be available. Steelers' Assistant Director of Pro Scouting, Dave Petett has left the team after his contract had officially expired.

Steelers' Petett Leaves In Time For Draft Process
Petett is now free to take a job with any other team and help them improve in the offseason. The Steelers will likely try to find a replacement as quickly as possible, even if it means promoting a scout from within. Either way, with all the help that the Steelers need, someone has to step up and prove that they can be a major piece ahead of the 2024 season.

Teams often allow scouts to depart early in the draft process so they can latch on quickly elsewhere.
The report even mentions that scouts can leave their teams early so they could get a job with a team that needs them quickly. This is not a rare occurrence, and it's safe to say that the Steelers will be searching for his replacement from a group of other scouts whose contracts expired at the end of the season as well, if they don't promote from within.

Petett has spent 20 years with the organization, although it is unclear how long he was the assistant director of pro scouting. In that time frame, he helped the Steelers win two Super Bowls under Kevin Colbert, and he had just started working under Omar Khan.

The odd thing here is no other scouting director has an assistant. It will be interesting to see if Khan or Sheldon White, the current director of pro scouting, brings in an assistant for White or the other directors. As long as the Steelers continue to grow, Steeler Nation likely won't worry about one less scout being on the team. They've announced that they want to grow the coaching staff, but will they do the same to the front office?
What do you think about Dave Petett's contract not being renewed? Are you looking forward to more coaches and front office members being added to the staff? Let us know in the comments!
