Heyward's acceptance of the award began with a touch of comedy, expressing his disbelief at the presence of Prince Harry at the ceremony. He confessed to being starstruck and utterly shocked by the moment. In his acceptance speech, Heyward expressed gratitude to his family, wife, Mike Tomlin, and teammates.

He also paid tribute to the family of Walter Payton, injecting humor by acknowledging his numerous nominations for the award over the years.

"This is my sixth time, so I’ve gotten a chance to know them over the years. We are blessed to be a blessing. You are creating more of his legacy. You are making this award what it is today. The work you guys do is truly special, and to be up here today, I can’t think of a better man to represent this award, and it’s because of you guys."

Reflecting on his father, who passed away, Heyward shared a touching message about the profound impact his father and the number 34 have had on him.

“When I talk about my dad, he wore number 34. He’s been with me the entire time. He’s been with me every step of the way, but I didn’t know there was another number 34 that was helping me. This man, Walter Payton. He’s done so much on and off the field, and he’s changed so many lives.”

Using his platform to inspire, Heyward emphasized the importance of both small and significant acts in making a difference in people's lives.

“There’s no act too small, and there’s no act too big. We are all trying to make a difference in so many people's lives. Continue to keep doing the work, as I will. This award is great, and I appreciate it, but I understand I got more work to do. I got to make sure I represent this man every day going forward. Keep doing the work. Keep being the positive role models you are.”

Heyward concluded his speech with a message of support for the youth, assuring them of his solidarity in times of struggle and offering encouragement.

"If you are a young child and part of the youth, just know, whether you are struggling or hurting, or just looking for somebody to have your back, I got you. Thank you so much. God bless, and good night.”

As the longstanding captain of the Steelers, Heyward's off-field contributions have been as significant as his on-field performance. Throughout the season, Heyward has been actively involved in various charitable endeavors, earning him the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
