Positioned less than five yards from sealing the game with a touchdown, the Steelers were on the cusp of glory. As the announcer's voice echoed through the stadium, acknowledging the fantasy football fortunes tied to Jerome Bettis, fate intervened with a cruel twist.
"For all you fantasy football players out there that have Jerome, you have got to be very excited right now."

Roethlisberger recently appeared on the Alpha 5 Method podcast alongside Bruce Gradkowski, delving into his legendary career and all things Steelers. During the discussion, he recounted the pivotal moment on that play.
"And so we end up having the lead, basically, if we score again, it's pretty much over. And it's like, give the ball to The Bus [Jerome Bettis]. Jerome's going to score. And it's game over. And I remember handing off and not carrying out my fake, which would've got me in a lot of trouble, just because I wanted to watch. I'm like, 'Jerome's going to score. It's going to be awesome to watch.' And um, and I turned around, and just watching that ball just, it was like slow motion, that ball pops out, hits the ground, and I'm like, 'Okay, I got to go grab the ball real quick.'”
Roethlisberger swiftly grasped the severity of the situation. Without a decisive move, the chances of securing victory were slim. He knew the odds were not in his favor and started to think outside of the box to save the game.
"It bounces right to him [Nick Harper]. And I'm like, 'Oh man, I'm the fastest guy on the field on our team. That's not good.' I got to figure this thing out. And so, it was like at some point, I can't outrun this guy, so I got to try and outsmart him. So I kind of gave him the weave this way, and I'm like, 'Alright, shoot your gun.' I just went for it. And I was able to hold onto his foot and get him to the ground.”
Despite the looming threat posed by the Colts, led by the legendary Peyton Manning, the Steelers clinched the victory when the Colts kicker, Mike Vanderjagt, missed a crucial 46-yard field goal attempt that would have tied the game.
The narrative reached its pinnacle with a fairy-tale conclusion when the Steelers emerged victorious in Super Bowl XL, held in Detroit.
