The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to add free agents on Monday. After reportedly signing wide receiver Quez Watkins, they've now added another quarterback to their roster, and some defensive line depth. Veteran quarterback Kyle Allen will now join Justin Fields and Russell Wilson as the Steelers continue to completely revamp their quarterback room.

With the Buffalo Bills bringing Mitch Trubisky back to their team to back up Josh Allen, they decided to move on from Allen. Now Allen heads to the Steelers to be the third string behind Fields and Wilson. Allen comes with a lot of experience, despite being an undrafted free agent signing by the Panthers after the 2018 NFL Draft.
Allen started 13 games in two seasons, including 12 games in 2019 for the Panthers. From there, he went to Washington where he started four games in 2020 before spending 2022 with the Houston Texans before heading to Buffalo last season. He has a 7-12 record as a starter with 26 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.
Steelers have also agreed to terms with QB Kyle Allen and DE Dean Lowry, GM Omar Khan says.

The other player Omar Khan announced that was signing with the Steelers is veteran Dean Lowry. Lowry is coming off a season-ending pectoral injury that ended his one season in Minnesota after nine games. Lowry signed a two-year contract with Minnesota last offseason, but was waived by the Vikings a few weeks ago.

Before signing with the Vikings, Lowry had spent seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers, making 80 starts, including every game from 2019-2021. Lowry, a fifth-round pick of the Packers in 2016, played in 111 regular season games and 11 playoff games over seven seasons in Green Bay. He had 252 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 16 pass breakups, 34 quarterback hits, four fumble recoveries, one interception, and one defensive touchdown. Lowry played 3,742 defensive snaps and 797 special teams snaps for the Packers.
The addition of Lowry should be a well-received move from Steeler Nation. He adds tons of experience to a defensive line that has a lot of young players outside of Larry Ogunjobi and of course, Cam Heyward.
Steelers QB Room Rounding Out, But Defensive Line Still A Concern
With the new addition of Allen, the Steelers' quarterback room could still possibly add another young signal-caller as an undrafted free agent, as Head Coach Mike Tomlin has historically liked to have four quarterbacks entering training camp. Regardless, Allen's presence rounds out the current QB room nicely, however, the defensive line still has question marks. As mentioned above, Heyward is not getting any younger. He will be 35 years old before Week 1 commences in September. The Steelers allowed 4.3 yards per carry in 2023 and will look to continue to bolster their trenches as their run defense has struggled in recent seasons.
