The Pittsburgh Steelers garnered significant attention recently with their successful signing of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen to a lucrative three-year contract valued at $41 million. This high-profile acquisition undoubtedly solidified their linebacker corps, adding a star player to their roster. However, the Steelers' front office remains determined to further bolster their depth at the position, demonstrating their ongoing hunger for talent and competitiveness.

Amidst this backdrop, Justin Melo of The Draft Network has unveiled intriguing insights into the Steelers' potential draft plans. According to Melo, the Steelers are actively exploring potential additions to their linebacker unit, with a particular focus on an under the radar talent like Joe Andreessen from the Buffalo Bulls.

The revelation of the Steelers' interest in Andreessen underscores their commitment to scouting and acquiring promising players who can contribute to their defensive prowess. As they continue to navigate the dynamic landscape of the upcoming draft, the Steelers' interest in Andreessen signals their proactive approach to strengthening their linebacker depth.

Melo conducted an interview with Andreessen to delve into the discussions he had with various teams during the College Gridiron Showcase held in Forth Worth, Texas, back in January.

"I've filled out some surveys. I had about nine interviews at the College Gridiron Showcase. The Jaguars, Eagles, Steelers, 49ers, and Bills showed some good interest there.”

Melo inquired about Andreessen's favorite aspect of playing at the linebacker position, prompting him to share valuable insights that he believes remain pertinent to the position, despite evolving trends in the game.

"I love stopping the run. That’s the best part of playing linebacker. That’s what you’re taught from a young age. It’s always been my bread and butter. You play the position to stop the run first and foremost. I obviously know the game has transitioned away from that a little bit. Everybody wants to throw the football and field an explosive offense."

The notion that the Steelers will invest an early draft pick in selecting a linebacker appears improbable. Instead, it appears more plausible that they would opt to utilize one of their sixth-round picks or later selections to bolster their depth with promising younger talent at the position.

Andreessen, projected as a seventh-rounder or a potential undrafted free agent signing, emerges as a sleeper prospect in the eyes of many. Despite being underrated, his passion for the game of football shines through, earning praise from Melo who highlights the Steelers' admiration for his style of play.

Steelers' Interest In Joe Andreessen Is Real But Who Is He?

Andreessen commenced his college football journey at Bryant University before transferring to Buffalo after two seasons. Despite the transition, he showcased his skills in his lone season at Buffalo, where he recorded impressive statistics: tallying 89 total tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery, in addition to 12 tackles for loss. Notably, his proficiency in stopping the run stands out as a defining trait, one that he holds dear to his style of play.

Standing at 6' 1" and weighing 232 pounds, Andreessen is an intriguing prospect flying under the radar. While he may not have faced the highest level of competition throughout his collegiate career, his performance remained consistent even after transitioning to face stiffer opponents. Although he may not revolutionize the game, his steady and impressive contributions on the field make him a noteworthy prospect to watch.

The Steelers will be scouting for players in key positions such as center, wide receiver, cornerback, and offensive tackle. While the priority order isn't set in stone, securing starting-caliber players for wide receiver and center stands out as crucial. Amidst the focus on these positions, it's intriguing to observe the Steelers' proactive approach in pursuing under-the-radar prospects.
