The Pittsburgh Steelers made headlines this offseason by signing veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum. Wilson comes to Pittsburgh after two seasons with the Denver Broncos, where the team struggled to win games and his performance declined.

Wilson, once considered an elite quarterback, quickly became a meme during his time with the Broncos. Now, he is eager to change the narrative about his recent struggles. Prior to his stint with the Broncos, Wilson was a nine-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks. Pundits have mixed opinions on what kind of season Wilson will have with the Steelers in 2024.
Former NFL quarterback and Steelers fan Ryan Leaf shared his thoughts on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams. He explained that he believes Wilson will maintain the starting job all year and even predicted that the Steelers have a chance to win the Super Bowl in 2024.
“Well, I don’t think there's going to be a competition frankly. I think it’s Russ’ job and he has everything to play for. I think it would absolutely be hilarious and also you would have to ask Sean Payton the question if you ever get him on the show. Ask him if he would go to the Super Bowl parade since they essentially gave them a franchise quarterback and are paying the freight for it because I don’t see why the Pittsburgh Steelers couldn’t be a Super Bowl champion.”
Leaf humorously took a jab at Broncos Head Coach Sean Payton, pointing out that the Broncos not only sent Wilson packing but also paid millions to do so. Leaf believes that if the Steelers win the Super Bowl, Payton should attend the parade since he essentially set the Steelers up for success this offseason.
“Watch out for the Steelers. I think Russ has every bit of being a Super Bowl champion quarterback in him and I don’t think anybody else does. I think he’s going to shock a lot of people with Arthur Smith and what they do with that offense.”
Many believe that Wilson may improve the Steelers, but few pundits have gone on record to claim that he still has the potential to lift the team back to Super Bowl glory. While many fans remember Wilson for his struggles in Denver, it's worth noting that in the 2023 season, before the Broncos benched him due to contract issues, he was thriving. Wilson threw for 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions, and even led the Broncos to a victory over the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Wilson is a hardworking quarterback who has faced a lot of unfair criticism over the past two seasons. He's eager to prove in 2024 that he is still the quarterback he once was in Seattle. If Wilson can lead the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory in the 2024 season, it would be one of the greatest comeback stories in NFL history.
Steelers' Russell Wilson Has A True Chance To Thrive In Pittsburgh
The Steelers were a solid team in 2023 despite having one of the worst offenses and dealing with numerous injuries. If Wilson can replicate his 2023 performance with the Broncos for the Steelers in 2024, Pittsburgh will have a legitimate chance to prove doubters wrong and compete for a Super Bowl. However, the Steelers have not won a playoff game since the 2016 season.

For Pittsburgh, ending that playoff drought in 2024 would be a significant success. Anything beyond that would be a bonus. However, Steeler Nation measures success by Lombardi Trophies, not just playoff wins. Wilson has the opportunity to rewrite the narrative and achieve something truly special for himself and the Steel City in 2024.
