The Pittsburgh Steelers' storied organization is known for winning Super Bowls, having secured six Lombardi Trophies in the franchise's history. However, as of late, the Steelers have struggled to return to that level of success, failing to win a playoff game since the 2016 season.

This has led to growing impatience among fans regarding the direction of the organization. Despite Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin's remarkable record of never having a losing season in his 17 years of leading the way, fans remain frustrated. Tomlin's consistent success has earned him recognition as one of the best coaches in the league, but in Pittsburgh, success is measured by Super Bowl victories. The lack of postseason success and focus on regular season wins have left fans dissatisfied.

Steelers insider Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette revealed that Art Rooney II is very aware of the criticism surrounding his organization. Rooney acknowledges the need for the Steelers to return to winning postseason games and emerge from this slump.

“I'm not gonna suggest Art Rooney II is reading this chat right now as we type, but sure, they're aware of the big-picture narratives, criticism and fan feedback about the organization. While you don't just bend to the wills of what your consumers want, doesn't any good business pay attention to what their paying customers think of them?”

Rooney met with the media following the season and made it very clear that he hears the fans' frustrations. He emphasized the necessity for the Steelers to return to winning meaningful football games. He even expressed his own personal frustrations. While many fans dismissed this as typical Rooney talk, this offseason has shown a different level of activity from the organization, spearheaded by Steelers General Manager Omar Khan.

Khan has been busy putting the Steelers in a much better position for a Super Bowl run. In a surprising move, they signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal and traded for Justin Fields. The organization swiftly moved on from former first-round pick Kenny Pickett, completely revamping their quarterback room.

Beyond the quarterback changes, the Steelers made significant additions to their defense and special teams. But not before another major move on offense. They decided to part ways with wide receiver Diontae Johnson, signaling a shift in their offensive strategy. The most notable move in free agency was signing linebacker Patrick Queen to a three-year deal worth $41 million, a huge splash that demonstrates their commitment to strengthening the team.

The Steelers' offense has been their Achilles' heel in recent years. Even an above-average offense could significantly improve the team. Recognizing this, the front office made bold moves to revamp their struggling offense. In the middle of the 2023 season, they fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada. After the season, they hired former successful Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith.

Bringing in Smith signals the Steelers' commitment to addressing the offensive woes. This move has given Steelers fans renewed optimism for the 2024 season. The offensive line is improving, and the upgrades at quarterback are promising. Coupled with their star-studded defense and valuable additions to the special teams unit, the Steelers are well-positioned to end their playoff drought in 2024.
