The Pittsburgh Steelers being one of the best franchises in the four major sports has a lot to do with legendary quarterback Terry Bradshaw. To this day, he is the last player that was selected with a top five pick by the organization, back in 1970. He has made a strong career for himself on the media side of the sports world, but before that he, led the Steelers to four Super Bowls, winning them all.

Bradshaw has been a part of plenty of memorable moments for the Steelers organization. He threw the ball on the Immaculate Reception, which is considered one of the best plays in NFL history. Bradshaw had a Hall Of Fame career, and is one of the most successful quarterbacks in the history of football. In a recent interview with James Wood of The Morning Call, Bradshaw revealed what is the most memorable memory of his 14 year career.

"I know a lot of people would say the Immaculate Reception in ’72 against the Raiders but really, no. The game I remember the most is Super Bowl IX against the Vikings, and the only reason is because I was standing in the crowd of players when Pete Rozelle gave Art Rooney the Vince Lombardi World Championship trophy. He was such a humble owner and I was so close to him, so it was cool to see after all those years of struggling. It wasn’t a play or anything other than watching Mr. Rooney get his first Super Bowl trophy. That’s my finest moment."

This was the first Lombardi trophy for the Rooney family, who are now in their third generation of owning and operating the Steelers with Art Rooney II. They are the only organization who are in their third generation of ownership in the NFL aside from the New York Giants. This being Bradshaw's most memorable moment says a lot about what the Rooney family means to it's players.

The Steelers are known for their history of success, but it hasn't always been that way. The organization was founded in 1933, but didn't make the playoffs until the 1947 season. The organization didn't experience serious success until Bradshaw led them to their first Super Bowl in 1974. Bradshaw knew the struggles that the organization went through up until that point, which is why the first Super Bowl means so much to him.

Pittsburgh won Super Bowl IX by a score of 16-6 over the Minnesota Vikings, and Franco Harris was named the MVP of the game. Bradshaw completed nine of his 14 passes in the game for a total of 97 yards and a touchdown. The league was focused on the running game during the time, as Harris ran the ball 34 times for 158 yards and a touchdown. Rocky Bleier also toted the rock 17 times for 65 yards. Super Bowl IX was the beginning of the Steelers dynasty, as they would go on to win three more Super Bowls during the 1970s.

Steelers Are Looking To Get Back To Being Contenders

Pittsburgh is currently going through a playoff draught. They haven't won a game during the postseason in seven years, despite making many appearances. They are set to take on one of the tougher schedules in the NFL during the 2024 season, which will make it even harder for them to play past the regular season.

The schedule may be daunting, but if they can power through it, it should have them well prepared for the playoffs. They will play all of their divisional games in the second half of the season, while also taking on the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. If they can find a way to punch their ticket to the postseason, they should be able to compete with the best the NFL has to offer.
