The Pittsburgh Steelers have been closing in on acquiring Brandon Aiyuk for what feels like forever, and it seems the saga might finally be coming to an end. Aiyuk still hasn't agreed to a new contract with the San Francisco 49ers, and he has made it very clear that he would like to play in Pittsburgh if the 49ers won't give him the money he desires. Aiyuk will either play for the 49ers or Steelers in 2024, and Pittsburgh has reportedly come to an agreement to land the star receiver.

It has been understood that the Steelers and Aiyuk's representatives have agreed on a new contract for the receiver, while the only thing holding up a potential deal was agreeing on trade compensation with San Francisco. Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that the Steelers and 49ers have agreed to terms, the deal just needs to be signed off on by San Francisco.

-- The Steelers and #49ers have a deal on a potential trade and PIT is in a good place on an Aiyuk contract, sources say. If SF gives the final sign-off, it's done.

It seems like the 49ers still want to find a way to keep Aiyuk, but they can't agree on an extension. San Francisco will likely commit some more time to negotiating with the All-Pro, but if they can't get a new contract done, he is a Steeler.

Steelers Being Patient As They Wait For The 49ers To Make Up Their Mind
San Francisco is a strong contender in the NFC, so they don't want to lose Aiyuk. They also don't want to pay Aiyuk what he wants, and they are dragging out the entire process by trying to get Aiyuk to agree to a cheaper deal. Dianna Russini reported that the deal Rapoport spoke of has been done for days, and the Steelers are just waiting for San Francisco to make up their mind.

As long as Aiyuk doesn't suddenly agree to take less money, it doesn't look like a new contract will be signed in San Francisco. Aiyuk will end up wearing the black and gold, it just depends on when San Francisco decides to give up on their negotiations with the receiver.
