The Pittsburgh Steelers entered a Week 7 game against the New York Jets as slight underdogs. Many had expected this to be a difficult matchup, especially since the Jets were desperate for a win and had just acquired superstar wide receiver Davante Adams. Russell Wilson, making his first regular-season start in black and gold, got off to a rough start, struggling with easy throws and facing heavy pressure. For a moment, it seemed like it might be a long night for Wilson and the Steelers offense.

However, everything shifted when Wilson connected with George Pickens on a deep ball, sparking life into the Steelers' attack. From that point on, Wilson found his rhythm, finishing the game with 264 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and a rushing touchdown. The offense, which had looked stagnant early on, began clicking, and Wilson's play-making ability became a driving force in the team's performance. Still, it wasn’t just Wilson who shined in the victory.

Undrafted free agent Beanie Bishop Jr. stole the spotlight with a breakout performance, making crucial tackles and grabbing two interceptions off Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. One of those interceptions nearly went the distance for a touchdown. After the game, Bishop was asked to stay on the field for an interview with Wilson. He was asked to describe how he got those two interceptions on Rodgers.

"Man, I mean we knew how he [Aaron Rodgers] liked to attack us," Bishop said. "Whenever he sees the middle of the field open you know he likes to throw those passes. I just happened to be right there and play what I saw. On that second one the ball just tipped up and that was a route that we gave up and that was a route that they have been running even in Green Bay… I tried to house call it."

Bishop and the Steelers' secondary had a clear sense that Rodgers was targeting the middle of the field, and Bishop positioned himself perfectly on both interceptions. His ability to anticipate the throws led to two game-changing plays that helped swing momentum in the Steelers' 37-15 victory over the Jets. Each interception was a key moment, solidifying his impact in the game.

During the postgame interview, while holding his Player of the Game football, Bishop was asked what he planned to do with the two footballs from his interceptions. With a smile, he admitted that he is hoping to get Rodgers to sign them so he can have them framed—a lighthearted and memorable moment to cap off his breakout performance.

"Man, I really wanna get them signed and framed forreal… We’ll see how that goes."

It's a bold idea, especially given the timing, as Rodgers just lost another game where his interceptions played a key role in the Jets’ downfall. Now sitting at 2-5, the Jets entered the 2024 season with Super Bowl aspirations, making this loss a significant blow. Rodgers’ struggles have added to their woes, and Bishop's request for a signature from him, despite the loss, adds an interesting layer to the story.

Steelers' Beanie Bishop Hopeful Jets' Aaron Rodgers Will Sign Intercepted Footballs

Bishop wanting Rodgers to sign the footballs is actually a sign of deep respect. Rodgers, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, still commands admiration from younger players in the league. While it’s amusing that Bishop is seeking autographs from the quarterback he picked off twice, it's not unheard of.

Players regularly asked Tom Brady to sign intercepted footballs, especially in the latter years of his career, showing the same level of reverence for legends of the game.

For Bishop, though, this game was about more than just the two interceptions. He had been struggling and had become a target for opposing quarterbacks. This performance marked a much-needed breakout for the undrafted rookie and will serve as a major confidence boost. Steeler Nation was thrilled to see Bishop shine, and the team's dominant win made the victory even sweeter. It was a near-perfect game for the Steelers.
