The Pittsburgh Steelers, and specifically General Manager Omar Khan, have disappointed the fan base when it comes to one specific area despite starting off the season with a record of 6-2. A pressing need at the wide receiver position has not been fully addressed even though the front office was reportedly involved in talks for both Brandon Aiyuk and Davante Adams. Now with the trade deadline less than a week away, Khan will spend the bye week trying to narrow down his options and come up with an offer that another team simply can't refuse.

Even though that Khan has been unable to secure a wide receiver, the market still has some options and a recent report suggests that the Steelers are narrowing the search down to just three potential options. NFL insider, Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, wrote on Thursday morning that Pittsburgh has a trio of names that look to be the most likely to end up in the Steel City if a trade does indeed commence.
"Now sources have attached the names of three receivers the team will look to trade for," Pauline wrote. "They include Darius Slayton of the New York Giants, Mike Williams of the New York Jets and Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos."
Courtland Sutton is a relatively new name being thrown into the mix and a rather surprising one, as the Denver Broncos sit with a record of 5-3. There were murmurs about the Steelers being interested in the summer, but nothing ever materialized. Darius Slayton and Mike Williams were already expected to be candidates, and now it can be confirmed that Khan has significant interest. Pauline emphasized Sutton and wrote that Pittsburgh is extremely interested.
"I am told the Steelers have a lot of interest in the Broncos wideout, but it's a matter of the team meeting Denver's asking price, which I'm told is high," Pauline wrote.
It is crucial for Pittsburgh to bring in another weapon in the passing game. George Pickens having a little more freedom to get open and dominate defenses could hinge on the fact that a new face is brought into the locker room. Fans would likely prefer Sutton, Slayton and then Williams, in that order. Pauline noted that Williams is likely a contingency plan for the Steelers.

While the offense has started to click for the Steelers as the season has gone one, it could be huge to bring in just one more legitimate option. With a stout defense, an offensive unit capable of putting up 20 points or more weekly will lead to several more wins than losses.
It will be interesting to see what kind of compensation the three wideouts get, assuming all are traded by the November 5th deadline. Pittsburgh is expected to be active on Tuesday due to a hard backend to the 2024 schedule. Mix that in with having the chance to make some legitimate postseason noise in some time, and it almost seems absolutely necessary that a trade occurs for Khan and co.

Steelers Noticing Team's Potential To Make Deep Playoff Run
Pittsburgh is expected to be a buyer at the deadline, and understandably so. The AFC is extremely tough and the division in which the Steelers play in is going to be difficult to win with the Baltimore Ravens hanging around. Another threat in the receiving game may be exactly what the team needs if the goal is to not just win the division, but make a run in the playoffs. Khan making a deal would solidify the front office's belief in the 2024 team.
