The Pittsburgh Steelers weren't dealt a very good hand when it came to the backend of the 2024 NFL schedule. Everyone is aware by now that the franchise has to play all six divisional games in the final eight weeks, with the first just happening against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11. Aside from the AFC North matchups, the organization will also have to take on two very good teams in the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. To make matters even worse for Mike Tomlin and co., the contest against the back-to-back Super Bowl champions will occur on Christmas Day, which falls on a Wednesday.

One of the bigger storylines regarding the two Christmas Day games is that the league will broadcast on Netflix for the first time ever. This was originally critiqued because it added yet another streaming service that fans will need to subscribe to if they would like to watch the contests. More concerns heightened recently after the streaming conglomerate was the host of a live boxing event headlined by Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
Throughout the stream, fans all over the world were hit with the dreaded circle of death buffering symbol. This was immediately connected to the NFL and many commented immediately on the fact that there would be widespread anger throughout the football world if this happens during standalone games on a major national holiday. Fans living in and around the Steel City, however, won't have to worry about subscribing to Netflix, or having streaming problems.
Update: Steelers fans in Pittsburgh DO NOT have to worry about Netflix buffering issues for Steelers-Chiefs on Christmas.

The game will be on KDKA-TV. And the feed they’ll send to viewers won’t be affected by Netflix server issues.

It was always expected for the local CBS affiliate in KDKA-TV to have its own broadcast of the game and Steelers fans living close to Pittsburgh can find comfort in the fact that there will be a reliable network to watch the matchup on.

It will be unfortunate if the millions of people tuning in outside of the Steel City do indeed have streaming issues. It will be even more criticized if buffering consistently happens in a game that has implications when it comes to home-field advantage in the AFC playoff picture. The reality of the fact is that Netflix provided absolutely no certainty that it could handle an NFL game (or multiple for that matter) during the boxing event, but was extremely quick to sell out all advertising slots.
It's no surprise that a greedy NFL has expanded to several streaming platforms. It almost seems like one has been added as each year passes. There hasn't been too much criticism in regards to the others, but Netflix could face a ton of backlash if there are problems on Christmas Day. The Steelers, Chiefs, Ravens and Houston Texans should all be checking in with Commissioner Roger Goodell about the potential issues.

Steelers Fans In Pittsburgh Will Gladly Enjoy Big Christmas Day Game On KDKA
Pittsburgh has fans all over the world and while it will be pretty upsetting if those outside of the Steel City area experience problems streaming the games, there is some comfort locally knowing that issues should not persist. The game could potentially be one of the franchise's biggest in recent regular season memory, which adds even more to the storyline. Including playoffs, Patrick Mahomes is a perfect 3-0 against the Steelers, but Pittsburgh will look to change that in December.
