The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of a momentum shift after dropping two straight games to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens. The good news for Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh is that a win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day will quiet fans who are upset about the two losses. It won’t be an easy task facing the Chiefs on a short week, but the Steelers should be getting reinforcements back, including star wide receiver George Pickens.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes finds a target against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with the media on Tuesday about facing the Steelers at Acrisure Stadium. Mahomes acknowledged the challenge of playing in Pittsburgh, emphasizing how difficult it is to secure a victory in such a hostile environment. He highlighted the intensity of the Steelers' crowd, noting how their energy can disrupt opposing teams and make communication on the field incredibly challenging.

For the Steelers, this matchup represents more than just another game—it’s an opportunity to reset their season’s trajectory and build confidence heading into the final stretch. With key players returning and the home crowd behind them, Pittsburgh will look to capitalize on every opportunity against one of the league’s most dominant teams. A victory over the Chiefs could reignite the team’s playoff hopes and restore faith among the fanbase.

"It's a great environment," Mahomes said. "I think that's the best thing about it. It's one of those true football stadiums, just like Arrowhead, where you know the history of everybody that's played in this stadium and the history of this franchise. It's gonna be rowdy. The fans will be out there. It'll be a great challenge for us and it's gonna feel as much like playoff football as you can possibly get."

Mahomes has firmly established himself as the top quarterback in the league, but he isn’t having his best season statistically. In 2024, Mahomes has completed 66.9% of his passes for 3,608 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

While those numbers are solid for most quarterbacks, they fall short of the sky-high expectations set for someone of Mahomes’ caliber. Despite this, the Chiefs continue to win games and currently boast an impressive 14-1 record.

Steelers' Russell Wilson Looking To Turn The Momentum Back In His Favor

The Steelers enter this matchup as slight home underdogs, but they have a legitimate chance to pull off a victory. Russell Wilson will be eager to redeem himself after a costly fumble and pick-six against the Ravens. The return of Pickens will be a significant boost, as his presence forces Chiefs Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to think twice before sending his signature aggressive blitz packages. If Spagnuolo decides to bring pressure, it could leave the Chiefs’ defense vulnerable to Wilson connecting with one of the most dangerous deep threats in the league in Pickens.

Having Pickens back provides a massive lift for both Wilson and the Steelers’ offense. This game will be intriguing because, while the Chiefs' offense hasn’t been as explosive this season, they still have star playmakers who can strike fear into any defense. The Steelers' secondary, plagued by injuries, has struggled to slow down opposing passing attacks in recent weeks.

For Pittsburgh to secure this win, the defense will need to step up and prove why they’re the highest-paid unit in the NFL. Additionally, the offense must capitalize on opportunities, with Pickens playing a key role in stretching the field and making big plays.
