The Pittsburgh Steelers are reeling coming off three straight losses. Pittsburgh was really feeling good about themselves until they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, and Kansas City Chiefs in what were mostly non-competitive games. Now the Steelers must try to regain some type of momentum against the red-hot Cincinnati Bengals and Joe Burrow. In Week 18, the Steelers will hope to close out their regular season with a win and head into the postseason with some positive energy. A win over the Bengals would be big, but it won’t be easy.

Pittsburgh Steelers' OLB Nick Herbig gets a strip-sack on Joe Burrow as the defense gets a scoop and score against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024.

Cincinnati enters the matchup as one of the hottest teams in the NFL, with Burrow leading an offense that has been firing on all cylinders. The Steelers’ defense will have its hands full trying to slow down Burrow and his dynamic group of playmakers. On the other side of the ball, Pittsburgh’s offense will need to step up after inconsistent performances in recent weeks. Quarterback play, offensive line protection, and the ability to establish the run game will all be critical factors in determining whether the Steelers can keep pace with the Bengals high powered offense featuring Burrow, Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase.

One of the biggest questions surrounding this game has been the timing of kickoff. Originally marked as to be determined, the NFL has now officially scheduled the Steelers and Bengals to face off at 8:00 PM ET on Saturday according to Brian Batko. The league clearly sees the significance of this matchup, positioning it in a high-profile time slot with potential playoff implications on the line. All eyes will be on Pittsburgh as they fight to end the regular season on a high note and carry some much-needed momentum into the postseason.

The Steelers began the 2024 season on fire, stringing together impressive wins behind Justin Fields. When Russell Wilson took over, the offense seemed to reach another level, sparking even more optimism. However, the last three losses have been humbling, to say the least.

Steelers Desperate As Playoffs Get Closer

The playoff picture remains uncertain, and while the Steelers don’t yet know their postseason opponent, one thing is clear—a win over the Bengals would significantly improve their outlook.

This Week 18 matchup has become a pivotal moment, and heading into the playoffs on a four-game losing streak would be a disastrous way to close the regular season.

If there’s any silver lining, it’s that Pittsburgh still has time to address their glaring issues before the playoffs begin. While recent performances have been concerning, the Steelers have an opportunity to correct course and regain their early-season form. There’s still hope, but the path forward feels far more uncertain than it did just a month ago.

All eyes will now turn to Mike Tomlin and his team as they prepare for this critical showdown. How they respond against Cincinnati will not only determine their playoff seeding but also set the tone for their postseason journey. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and Steeler Nation will be watching closely.
