Steelers Immediately Have Top Wide Receiver Trade Target After Bombshell Drops In Los Angeles

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be involved in all sorts of rumors throughout the 2025 offseason. The quarterback and wide receiver positions will generate a ton of speculation, which was a lot of what happened in 2024 as well. George Pickens' future is in doubt, and with or without him, the organization needs to make significant upgrades at wideout in order to help whomever is leading the offense as a signal-caller. General Manager Omar Khan will likely look for a trade partner if no one in free agency makes sense and a veteran All-Pro immediately jumped to the top of the list on Monday evening.

The NFL world was shocked on Monday when it was announced by Myles Garrett that he requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns' organization. Franchises all over the league will be interested in his services, but he won't be the only play-maker to have his name involved in rumors during the 2025 offseason. An offensive weapon took to X to say that his team no longer wants him.

Cooper Kupp doesn't seem to have a choice with the Los Angeles Rams' decision to seek a trade regarding the former Super Bowl champion. Regardless, it appears as if the franchise is ready to move on. Kupp has dealt with injuries in recent years, but still managed to haul in 67 catches for 710 yards and six touchdowns in 2024. Unfortunately for him, Puka Nacua has taken over the role as the top option in the receiving game. Kupp would be the perfect veteran for the Steelers to add.

There is no doubting that Pittsburgh could use more than one upgrade at the wide receiver position. When Pickens missed three-straight games towards the end of the 2024 campaign, the offense struggled mightily. Adding a veteran like Kupp is more than just bringing in talent, but also including an experienced and proven play-maker into a room that didn't perform the best last season. His best football might be in the rearview, but Kupp is a better option than another veteran such as Van Jefferson.

Time will tell if the Steelers express significant interest, but it appears as if Los Angeles has a goal of discussing possibilities with teams soon. It's impossible to argue that bringing in someone like Kupp, despite him being older, wouldn't help the organization. Khan did everything in his power to acquire a pass-catcher in 2024, but fell short aside from a nearly meaningless trade involving Mike Williams.

Pittsburgh can't fully fix the offense through the draft, and several teams will be interested in top free agents such as Tee Higgins. Trading for a play-maker like Kupp has the potential to be an extremely low-risk, high-reward move depending on what the Rams' asking price is. One thing is for sure, and that's the fact that Khan and the Steelers are going to be linked to Kupp several times over the course of the next few weeks as the new league year approaches.

Any deal involving Kupp would probably come with a revised contract, but that is not absolutely certain. Overall, the Steelers seem to be a good fit based on need, cap space and recent history of being involved in the wide receiver trade market. Kupp noted in his post on X that he is looking forward to being healthier than ever in 2025, which would make him extremely dangerous as a second option in the passing game for Pittsburgh.

Steelers' Omar Khan Could Make Big Splash With Acquisition Of Kupp

While Kupp is going to be 32 years of age when the 2025 regular season kicks off, his talents remain undeniable. If he is healthy, he could certainly contribute to the Steelers' offense. A room of Kupp, Pickens and an early-round draft selection could completely turn over a unit that was far from consistent in 2024. Fans in the Steel City will be keeping a close eye on Kupp and his potential availability. It shouldn't cost a significant amount to trade for him given his age and contract.
