The Pittsburgh Steelers are certainly going to be in the market for a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft. Some pundits believe the Steelers will be eyeing the position as early as round one. The Steelers will be drafting 21st overall, and at that spot, they will have a chance to land an exciting wide receiver prospect.

Today at Steeler Nation, we are breaking down our scouting report on Texas Longhorns star wide receiver Matthew Golden. He had 58 catches for 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, playing a major role in the Longhorns' success in 2024.
Golden is drawing comparisons to Brandon Aiyuk due to his crisp route running, speed, and ability to create separation. He has the explosiveness to stretch the field and the versatility to line up across multiple spots in the offense. While there is a chance he could be off the board by the time the Steelers pick, if he’s available, he would certainly be a name to watch. The Steelers have been searching for a reliable second option to pair with George Pickens, and Golden’s skill set could make him a perfect fit in Arthur Smith’s offense.

So much to like about him as a prospect:
-17 YPR and led Texas in TD catches
- Great separation skills
- Big Play Ability
- 8-162 in the SEC Title Game/7-149-1 vs ASU in CFP
- Top 5 WR in this classpic.twitter.com/hrcVgPV2LM
Golden is undeniably a talented wide receiver. He is as NFL-ready as they come, and his production speaks for itself. His strengths are off the charts—he can win 50/50 balls, stretch the field, and line up in multiple spots within an offense. He also has a natural ability to manipulate his speed, keeping defensive backs at a disadvantage. On top of that, he consistently makes routine catches with sharp focus and sound fundamentals.

The biggest concern with Golden is his ability to stay on the field. He has dealt with injuries, which is naturally a red flag, but not one significant enough to hurt his draft stock. What could impact his value, however, is his effort when he doesn’t have the ball. On film, he isn’t particularly active in the blocking game, which has drawn criticism from analysts. While not a major flaw, it’s something teams will consider when evaluating his all-around impact.

Despite those concerns, the positives far outweigh the negatives when it comes to drafting Golden. He would be an excellent complement to a receiver like Pickens and has the potential to make an immediate impact. There are a few other intriguing options in this draft, but if Golden is available at 21 selecting him would be a smart decision.
Steelers Still Waiting On Wide Receiver Roman Wilson To Get Started
In addition to potential draft targets, the Steelers already have several wide receivers looking to make an impact in 2025. Pickens and Calvin Austin III are expected to be key pieces in the offense, while 2024 third-round pick Roman Wilson remains an intriguing option after a lost rookie season.

Wilson dressed for just one game before being sidelined for most of the year, but Steelers fans are eager to see if he can earn more opportunities alongside Pickens and Austin. Adding a dynamic talent like Golden to the mix would give the Steelers a much-needed boost at wide receiver and provide their quarterback, whoever that is going to be, with another dangerous weapon.
Steelers fans are pumped to find out who their team will select in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Steelers have a lot to fix and finding help at the wide receiver spot will get them going in the right direction.
