Physically Dominant Receiver Should Be Available For Steelers After First Day Of 2025 NFL Draft

It will likely come as a shock if the Pittsburgh Steelers and General Manager Omar Khan decide against selecting either a defensive lineman or wide receiver in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Both units need to be slightly revamped if the organization wants to avoid a full rebuild, but it is also hard to ignore the quarterback position. Overall, a lot of work must be done by the coaching staff and front office to get the team back to competing for championships. A ton of projected cap space along with holding the rights to each of the team's picks on the first two days of the draft should be a good start.

It would be rather shocking if the Steelers decided to invest in a quarterback in the first or second round, which is why many believe that the defensive line and receiving corps will be addressed early. No one is quite sure what the direction at signal-caller will be, but after free agency, there should be a much more clear path when it comes to who will be under center in 2025.

Pittsburgh hasn't drafted a first-round defensive lineman since Cameron Heyward was selected in 2011. If one had to guess, that could change this year while the decision-makers trust the history of selecting a pass-catcher on day two. Fans in the Steel City should be hoping for a physically-imposing wideout to fall to the 52nd overall pick.

Tre Harris should be connected to the Steelers plenty in the coming months. At 6'3" and roughly 210 pounds, he has a similar body to that of Keenan Allen. After only catching one pass in his first collegiate season, Harris totaled 219 catches and 29 total touchdowns during his two seasons with Louisiana Tech and final couple of years with Ole Miss from 2021-2024. A combination of him and George Pickens would be terrifying for opposing secondaries.

Pickens' future in the Steel City may be in doubt after a drama-filled third season, but fans still believe that he will be around for at least the 2025 campaign. Pittsburgh has Calvin Austin III and Pat Freiermuth to work over the middle of the field, but another outside presence is pivotal if the group wants to have more success going forward. Someone like Harris could be the perfect complement to the rest of the unit.

The Steelers cannot hold back throughout the 2025 offseason. Quarterback is a position that every team needs to have figured out, but aside from that area, the defensive front and wide receiving corps need to be addressed. The draft class is extremely deep when it comes to the line, which could cause Khan to pull the trigger on a wideout in round one, but it's more than likely that the two positions are addressed in the first and second rounds.

There are going to be some guys who fall to day two when it comes to the pass-catchers. Harris is currently a guy projected as a second-round pick, and he would be a near-perfect addition to a roster that needs a red zone threat. It would be great for Khan to help the team get more physical at the wide receiver position.

Steelers Must Be Aggressive In 2025 Offseason

Pittsburgh doesn't have the luxury of messing around when it comes to the organization's roster needs in 2025. There are clear areas that need to be improved and all three avenues such as the trade market, free agency, and the draft must be utilized. Hitting a home run on a wideout on day two of the draft would be massive, and Harris is a name to look out for moving forward.
